Well, I'll be disappointed if this is the best song on the album.  Still, not bad.  7/10, and that's up from a 5/10 after the first listen.  It may yet climb some more.

8.5 now, would not be surprised if I end up giving it a 9 as time goes by.

5/10

Nothing special whatsoever, but it's not horrible.

Early impressions (I normally take a good few listenings before I really start to appreciate a song) are very good. I would probably say 7.5-8 and that's only going to get higher the more I hear it I think. So I voted 8.

It's great that over 70% of people have voted 8 or above and almost 90% voted 7 or above. Hopefully a good sign for the rest of the album.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Alright. Listened to it lots the first couple of days, didn't touch it for another three, and just listened to it a couple more times. What do I think?

It's not a great song, but it's a great opener. The instrumental parts are amazing - one of the most LTE of all DT songs - and really get your body going. It sets a mood and it sets a tone. You feel it, you know?

I'm not impressed because it's an awesome super epic life-changing song, I'm impressed because it's a single and it doesn't suck balls. What I mean is, the song was more true to DT than most of the recent DT songs, especially the singles.

Yeah, you gotta think of the context of what the song is and how it would fit in the album. An album needs to be well balanced, overall. If they said, "This is our longest, most epic song on the album," then yeah, that's a big 3/10, compared to songs like Octavarium, Learning to Live, or In The Presence of Enemies. But comparing it to the typical DT single, like Pull Me Under... Well, I think it's one of their best.

Ok, this song is now a 9/10, from an 8/10 or 8.5/10. It is a very tasteful song. Every part is good. There are all these little things in the song that add to it, and not take away from it like some of their other recent songs. No filler, all killer.

Yes, I was thinking today that if this was the worst song on the album, it might actually have to chance to surpass I&W as my fave. If it's the best song (exTREMEly unlikely), then it doesn't bode well.

My gut feeling is that it's a gentle way of easing in to the insanity and awesomeness that JP and JR assure us is there in bucketloads.

The Presence of Frenemies

It's grown for me some, from a 7 to 8/8.5. The vocal melodies are what drags it down somewhat, but my thoughts on them have gone from "okay but bland" to "not great but solid." I still really hope James busts out some crazy high notes somewhere on the album though. He proved in TGD yesterday that he's still got that in him.

Most of the recent DT songs were not songs at all. I smell the stench of a conspiracy  :omg:

...but that makes less sense.
I think that was his joke.

I hope so anyway.

For his sake.

Yeah, it was a joke. Come on, it is (almost) late night here and I spent my whole day writing essays and laboratory relations on the experimental behaviour of both ideal and real gases. Can't I affort a bad joke at the end of this day?   ;D

yorost

No, that's fine.  Don't count on me picking up on them, though. :lol
