Honestly, if the songs on ADTOE match the tone/mood of the titles...

...then I really think this will be a new all-time favorite album. There's just something about these track titles that I adore. There's this very mystical, and emotional quality to them. They all seem like they are tackling very serious philosophical, emotional, and religious themes, stuff that hasn't been done much since SDOIT. The titles really sound like something off I&W and Awake, and since JLB said this album will sound like I&W and classic DT, I really am fucking excited.

Please DT, for the love of God, make the songs match the titles... I beg of you, you're my only hope **Princess Leia voice**

The Shaman's Trance! So avant! :metal
When I hear that song, I want to feel like I'm literally going into the jungle to meet with some Shaman of an amazan tribe. Then smoke some kind of herb and go on a full blown trip to the spiritual world. Then wake up, and in a Keanu Reeves voice, say "Woah"

LaBrie himself said that the album would resemble I&W and SFAM more and that it would be more progressive, melodic and less "bombastic".

I'm pretty sure I've heard other "hints" from the band members that it would be more like that. Either way, as much as I don't want to hear more of the "modern" Dream Theater sound in this album, I still think they will have some songs like "A Rite of Passage" and "Forsaken" thrown in it.
I think that they drifted off a bit too much towards the "Train of Thought" and "Octavarium" sound, it reminds me of these forums, when people go off topic and drift off into a more uninteresting conversation.   :-\

lol damn, I'm usually a writting nazi when it comes to you're and your. Suprised I messed up.

Haha I was just breaking balls.

But I agree, I think all the songs apart from Build Me Up, Break Me Down have a lot of potential if they reflect the names/moods.

Yeah. Build Me Up, Break Me Down sounds like a Skillet song combined with Dream Theater's "Forsaken", edited by Linkin Park, and massively raped by Green Day.

I really believe that having John and John sit down like they used to and jam through ideas as friends first and musicians second will make this record special. All the other cool stuff will be icing on the cake but it will all be rooted in that foundation.

Now THERE'S a sonic orgy the whole family can enjoy!

I remember JR posted a picture of a keyboard sound he was using on the new album. It was a sitar I belive. Yeah, I definately think that The Shaman's Trance is gonna feature some sitar. On that song, the title will match the tone

"Far From Heaven"...

MAN WHAT'S THIS SONG GONNA BE LIKE. So stoked for it... somehow it makes me think of "Lifting Shadows off a Dream" mixed with "Trial of Tears".

It's going to be a 2 minute ukulele solo.

Something tells me this one might have some JM lyrics.

The album name sounds like a breakup with mp and This is the life, I wonder how long it took for them to come up with that one.

Maybe they are huge Amy MacDonald fans?

I am guessing a screen from the keyboard display where it says stuff like 'Strings', 'Ragtime', 'Banjo', 'Meowing cats' and such.

You stumbled onto something here...'Meowing cats'.  We need a Meowing cat keyboard solo right smack in the middle of one of those jammin' instrumental interludes.  "Meowing cats On the Backs of Angels"?

Apricot

I too have high hopes for this album, especially since it's going to be more prog-sounding.

I fully endorse the idea of a meowing cat solo.

Im sure JR has used that sound before for his solos.  ::).....would be great to here his use some different sounds on ADTOE. ;)

I'm most excited to hear On The Backs Of Angels, like JLB said, it sounds really emotional and epic. And Breaking All Illusions, which just sounds badass!

The first song they recorded isn't necessarily Track 1 on the CD.

i'm still stoked about tst. if the mood matches the title, we have one awesome dt song.

im pretty sure it's the instrumental. just a guess, though.

At the moment, the only track name I'm not crazy about are Build Me Up Break Me Down, Lost Not Forgotten, and This is the Life.
Build Me Up seems like it could be a very paint-by-numbers DT song.
Lost Not Forgotten sounds like it'll be a bit too preachy.
And I'm not sure what to expect with This is the Life, but the title rubs me the wrong way.

However, Breaking All Illusions is pretty much the coolest song name Dream Theater has ever come up with, so my expectations for that song are very high.

RaiseTheKnife

Can I enact a rule where we can't use title abbreviations for the songs that have yet to come out?  Type the title of the songs with the full impetus they deserve, none of this casual familiarity until the album is released . . .

You can, but I'm unlikely to follow it.

If I've already typed out Build Me Up, Break Me Down once, I'm gonna be calling it BMUBMD for the rest of the post. Ditto if I'm responding to someone who's already namechecked it.

What will happen if DT ever has two songs named so that they end up having the same abbreviation?  ???

Strange Deja Vu and Space Dye Vest.  Also happens a little bit with Trial of Tears and Train of Thought.

Fortunately, usually the context of the post makes it pretty easy to understand.
