TDOE is now changed to TDOME

I voted SoC, but my opinion's changed at least twice since thinking about it.  I really do love SoC, but then, Erotomania is also fantastic, and Eve is pretty amazing, and the Ytse Jam is very cool.  And my vote could very well go to Overture as well, except that I think that song is only at its best when it's immediately followed by Strange Deja Vu.

So, hmmmm... overall I think it comes down to Erotomania vs. Stream of Consciousness for me.

Alot of the time I dont think of Overture 1928 as a seperat song... because of Strange Dejavu... is like Overture / Temple of Syrinx (shut up i am not in the mood to spell) ...

One of the most difficult DT related decisions for me. My favourite usually changes between Eve, Hell's Kitchen and Dance of Eternity.

Right now, it's Hell's Kitchen.

Precisely.  :)

Bone_Daddy

Going out on a limb here but voting for Puppies On Acid [Live Version - Paris 1998] as an instrumental.

chknptpie

Hard to choose, this opinion could be a few of those songs depending on the day. But today I chose Hell's Kitchen.

njdtfan

I chose Dance of Eternity, although from 3:18 on out in Hells Kitchen is epic.

Mladen

Dublagent66

It was close between HK and Erotomania, but I chose the latter.  HK is epic but Eroto seems to have a tad more flavor.

Dream Team

One thing I was just thinking was that if you combined all of the best parts of DT's instrumentals, somehow merging them into a cohesive song; you would have the greatest piece of music ever recorded  :metal.

ScioPath

ubit

I voted SoC, with the YTSE Jam right behind.

3:04 - 3:34 makes me smile every time.

Along with many, many other parts.  :-)

farsight

I love Erotomania and Hell's Kitchen like I love my two testicles, but the part in Erotomania at 3:10 which is like Silent Man's melody with the Caught in a Web riff and the solo after it is probably my favourite DT piece of music.

I also love Erotomania and Hell's Kitchen like I love my two testicles. But I chose the Stream of Consciousness, my penis is obviously far superior than my testicles.

hefdaddy42

Eve because it is unbelievably emotive and expressive and awesome.

Bolsters

So little love for Overture 1928? I am actually surprised. ???

I love it, but it's short, as well as Hell's Kitchen. It's my 3rd fav instrumental.

Sixtease

I voted Hell's Kitchen. I remember a poll like this was done some time ago (maybe a year?) and Hell's Kitchen won by far back then. It's interesting how things change.

A dramatic turn of events?

nikatapi

I voted for Overture 1928, but i love Erotomania, Hell's Kitchen and the others...Its a tough choise.

FlyingBIZKIT

Those are my 3 favorites.  Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Stream of Consciousness, although it's much better than Raw Dog..lol

tgstk2

voted for erottomania... because of JP's solo which is the highlight of the album for me... that string skipping solo is....WOW beyond everything he ever did before/after.....

but SOC has one of the most killer riffs in my option...the first riffs' with MP great drumbeat..wow that's just so smooth it always makes me drive fast...

go to youtube and type stream of instrumentals.

tgstk2

the instrumedly is wicked..but it doesn't sound like a song at all to me.......it's indeed a medly of the craziest instrumental parts they have written so far...........
it's like copy/paste with music.

Dublagent66

Wow, HK & Eroto neck n neck.  But look at SoC.  Great instrumental, but that slow section just drags on too long.  Kills it for me.

The lack of Instrumedley here dissapoints me.

It's a medley, not a standalone song.  And they've done different versions.  The OP was right not to include it.  Anyhow...

-Stream of Consciousness  -- Great atmosphere.  Very metal.  It conjures up another terrific instrumental (Orion) without copying it.  I generally tend to not rank instrumentals as highly as songs with vocals, but this instumental is one of a few exceptions that ranks WAY up there.
-Erotomania -- Full of energy.  Lots of variation.
-Overture 1928 -- Although it's just an overture, it's SO good!
-Ytse Jam -- Starts to feel repetitive after a bit, but the youthful energy of the song makes up for it.
-The Dance of Eternity -- the only reasons it ranks so low is because there are so many other instrumentals in the catalog and because it is just so crazy and all over the place that I have to be in the mood for it.
...
-Hell's Kitchen --  Nothing much interesting going on here, but it makes a neat intro to Lines In The Sand, so I don't hate it.  But talk about starting a motif and going absolutely nowhere with it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and...
-Eve -- Well, it's better than Raw Dog.
-Raw Dog -- Yeah.  When it comes up on iTunes, I usually won't skip it.  But I don't usually find it all that interesting either.  The best thing about this song is that its existence means Eve is no longer at the bottom of the list.

ricky

that's tough. i thought about this for a while, and tried to compare them from an impartial viewpoint.

i'd have to say that TDOE is their best work in the instrumental department. complexity, simplicity, dynamics...there is just so much to it, and it is a great representative of the musicianship this band possesses.

FlyingBIZKIT

It's very close, I like to see that. SOC, HK, and Erotomania are competing, with TDOE just a little behind. I'm surprised 1928 hasn't got alot of votes. Although, it does sound better when you have Strange Deja Vu right after it.  :metal

gabeh1018

Favorite instrumental from start to finish: dance of eternity
Best atmosphere: hell's kitchen and I love the way it ends
Love the ending to Erotomania
I do love Stream of consciousness but i'm not a fan of the middle breakdown and think it's a little longer than it should be
