2112.. nuff said

I agree but would still love to hear them do a not so obvious cover. I just like the old school rush :metal

Moving Pictures. Feels right down their alley, also it would be cool to hear a DT version of "Tom Sawyer" and "YYZ"

Ryzee

Power Windows.  Or if we're talking just a song, Middletown Dreams

How about Natural Science, or has is been done? Permanent Waves would definitely be my choice if were talking about albums.

Hey Peruv, you may wanna edit your OP to clearly indicate whether you mean a single song, an album or if you wanna hear our choices for each.

As for me I'd pick Natural Science for the single song option and Hemispheres for the whole album deal.

Hemispheres
Loved the cover by Cygnus and the Sea Monsters (with Portnoy and Gilbert). would love to see Petrucci's take on it.

Hemispheres (my favorite album). But I guess 2112, A Farewell To Kings or Permanent Waves would be awesome too...

TL

Hemispheres would be good, though James' vocals should be taken into consideration. Don't get me wrong, James is sounding great these days, but some of Rush's earlier albums have some extremely high vocal parts.

Personally, I'd love to see them cover any Rush album other than Power Windows and Hold Your Fire.

Definitely has to be Power Windows - the album gives plenty for Jordan Rudess to do, outside of the usual synth chords and simple melodic lines. There's a LOT of involved keyboard parts that Jordan could play out on POW that would be amazing to hear. Besides, to date, I believe DT have never played a song from that album, but they have done songs from Signals, Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, Hemispheres, A Farewell To Kings, and 2112.

If not POW, then Caress Of Steel, but they already did "The Necromancer", but I would just kill to see them pull off "The Fountain Of Lamneth" live!

My favorites are A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres, but given that Rudess needs something to do Power Windows makes the most sense and is an amazing album.

theanalogkid7

La Villa Strangianto would be a fantastic song for them to cover, but I'm having a hard time thinking about a whole album.  If an album like Signals or Power Windows gets chosen, then it can kinda become a boring time for JM and JP.  However, get an album like Hemispheres or A Farewell to Kings, JR kinda gets left out.

I just don't know... I just don't know...

EDIT** I could see PW getting chosen and it work out alright.  I'd love to here the guys do a cover of Marathon :D

Man, I would LOVE hearing The Fountain of Lamneth.  One of my favorite Rush epics.

Yes, because Force10 is the best song from that album.

Power Windows. It has a good amount of keyboards, so JR would be given more to do than doubling guitar parts. Also, it has eight great songs. What else is there to wish for?

AFTK. My favourite. The title track, Xanadu and Cygnus are right in their territory. Cinderella man as a piano/power ballad.
Still can't get into Hemispheres track- it's ok, just not awesome like AFTK was. Side 2 (of the vinly of course) is awesome.

peruvianskynewhampshire

Im seeing a trend here for hemispheres,i will have to take a listen to it again, its been a while but i still love the old rush ,fly by night, anthem, best I can etc but i do agree about how jordan would feel doing these songs. :corn

TL

If they covered an album that didn't have a lot of keyboard stuff, Jordan could just add stuff. I think that would actually be much more interesting.
I mean, they covered Master of Puppets, which has no keyboards at all, and Number of the Beast, which has little to no keyboards.

Jamesman42

contest_sanity

I'm just not on this Power Windows bandwagon.  It's a great album, but I'd rather them cover any of the other "synth" albums over it.  Tastes, though, right?  My top picks, however, would be Permanent Waves, Caress Of Steel, and AFTK.

Anyone have a link to this interview?

Kind of tough to pick one, 'Rush cover' doesn't really put one theme to my mind.

"You’ve covered a lot of classic rock albums start to finish in concert. Do you have any plans on what ones you’d like to do next?
There’s no plans right now to do one, but certainly there’s ones that would be great. With all of our influences growing up, there’s so many great albums that could be done, but right now we’re really focused on this record and the tour that follows. I haven’t even thought about other people’s music much lately. But, again, I mentioned the bands that we were influenced by, it would be great to do a Rush album, or something like that. We’ll see."
