Music Radar are running another poll for best live act in the world. DT is on the list, but Rush is running away with it at the moment. PT is also on the list. Anyway, show some love for DT! Yes?

I've seen DT live like 7 or 8 times...............they're not the best live act I have seen.

I've seen Rush several times, DT a couple and PT a couple. The three are equal live as far as I'm concerned. But I went ahead and voted for DT because they need some votes.

Edit: Just to clarify, my idea of a great live act doesn't have anything to do with stage show/lighting. It's how good they sound/play that makes it or breaks it. Just my opinion after having seen over 200 shows.

7StringedBeast

AC/DC, Metallica, or Iron Maiden.  Definitely the 3 best live acts I have seen.  R.E.M. behind those.

dongringo

When I saw Metallica on the Black tour they sucked. Very sloppy. Very disappointed. Iron Maiden was great though as always.

I DONT SEE MARK TREMONTI. I REFUSE TO VOTE.

I've seen metallica 3 times and I have to say they are one of the tighest bands ive ever seen live second to only Dream Theater.

Looking at it objectively and as a "whole package" performance, I voted U2.

Objectively, DT sucks as a "whole package" live act.  They play their music, and that's it, and fans go to listen to it intently, and that's it.  If the vote were for "best performance of music with the fewest mistakes" then it's DT all the way.  But when I want to be entertained by a live act I want U2, Bon Jovi, Pink, Steve Vai, Metallica, Black Eyed Peas, Iron Maiden, etc.  I want shows that are multidimensional and do a lot of things to entertain the audience.  If I want to be a music nerd and focus purely on the music I'll go with DT, Rush, Rodrigo y Gabriela, etc.

Well, what sucks then is I must have gotten a bad show. On the Black tour they allowed us to videotape it, which I did and was initially very excited about doing. Well, I watched it back a few times and showed it to friends and family who weren't able to go and everyone thought it was a sloppy and uninspired show. But I guess that happens occasionally. Anyway, I lost interest with that album so never wanted to see them again after that.

Nothing beats the drunken Emily Haines show though. She almost passed out at the piano and nearly fell off the stage.  :lol

Yeah I'm going to have to agree that while DT plays with admirable accuracy, my favorite and vote for "best" live act would be Iron Maiden.  Bruce is the most entertaining, energetic, powerful frontman I've ever seen.

You're not the only one to get a bad show from them. The second concert I ever attended was Queensryche(Mindcrime tour) opening up for Metallica(And Justice for All tour) in Columbus, Ohio and Metallica were not good at all. It was probably the worst mix I've ever heard at a live show. When Lars occasionally hit his toms it was like they weren't even mic'd up and the guitar sound was awefull. Ofcourse, Newstead was nowhere to be found/heard in the mix either.

dongringo

Thank you PowerSlave! Too bad though, because that sounds like a dream tour for back then.

FsF

Very sad to see The Dillinger Escape Plan missing from the list. Guarenteed if you've been to one of their shows, you won't be forgetting it in a hurry. Ben Weinman (+ guitar) launching himself into the audience, Greg Puciato literally hanging off the stage lighting while singing, and then Weinman running along the audience's heads to the back of the room at the end of the gig. Amazing.

The lack of Muse in this thread is unacceptable.

Voted Iron Maiden.
Me too. Although I was actually considering Rammstein for a second.  ;D Dream Theater is right behind, though.

Haven't seen Rush live... Yet.

JustJen

I've seen many of the bands on that list live. Rush was fantastic, yes... not surprised they have over 40% of the votes and nobody else has even 10%. Journey wasn't great. Dream Theater was pretty darn good. Porcupine Tree tops my list for the show I enjoyed more than any other, ever, so my vote went there.

But honestly, I saw both Alice Cooper and KISS in the past several months as well and Alice was right up there. If he's not on the list (and if KISS isn't), then the poll itself fails anyway.

DT is great to see live, as a musician and as a DT fan.
to see that complex music played live. but you dont have to attend a DT gig, for the 'show" it's not like they have the best stage presents of all the bands listed.

i  voted for MetallicA, eventhough Lars'drumming sucks live, still...they are a real live band. there's that extra energy, that vibe.
they have great stages, lights, pyro and stuff.

I haven't seen JMX do a single headband over 20 years. the last time i saw JP some serious headbanging was i guess in live in tokyo..
i always go to DT to see them nail the music.

Chino

Trans Siberian Orchestra gets my vote for best live act even though the are not on the list. I have seen them the last three years in a row, each time having my jaw drop a little more than the previous.

Agree... but they have a distinct lack of diversity (ie, they do virtually the same show every year).  After you`ve seen them a few times (I`ve seen them 4 times), it loses it`s appeal.

I love how the OP started this thread for people to vote for DT and everyones voted for someone else :lol  Anyhow I voted for Rush  :lol

tgstk2

you may only choose from the list....and even than DT doesn't get that much votes haha.

if we could all give our best live act...this thread would have to be in the genral music secion and not the DT ;-)
so lets vote before it gets moved :lol

Well, since it's a live MUSIC concert excuse me for focusing on the sound of the music. If I wanted to see some jackass jump around the stage like he has scorpions in his pants I'll go watch monkeys at a zoo. LOL at Bon Jovi and Black Eyed Peas (that was easily THE WORST half-time performance and "singing" I have ever seen).

YtseBitsySpider

I've mentioned this before, but RUSH was probably the second worst concert I ever saw, with Pearl Jam taking the #1 spot.

both excellent bands...that I had the misfortune of catching on horrendous nights.

Flat, dull, uninterested in being there, it was a complete waste of money.

Every one of the DT shows I've seen has blown me away especially their tour with QR and FW.

Tina Turner and Bryan Adams still rank 1 and 1a for the best concerts I've ever seen.
Extreme was pretty freaking awesome too.

Seen TSO three times in three different venues.  Have to say they blow away any other show I have seen live.

Dellers

No Earth, Wind & Fire or Parliament Funkadelic? Silly list. DT (great musically) and Prince (fantastic, got the whole package) are good live. Haven't seen many of the others on the list live though.

ZeppelinDT

My vote would go to Coheed, but since they're not on that list, I gotta go with Roger Waters.  Dude knows how to put on a show.

Lotion

Of what i've seen i'll rate them like this

8th and 9th the black keys and metallica quite boring. Mostly because of the music.
7th Kanye West at coachella was called "the greatest hip hop concert of all time", for me it was quite boring.
6th Jay-Z is the only hip-hop concert I've ever enjoyed. Was pretty cool with a small orchestra.
5th A Prince concert is quite epic, cause he is Prince. Nothing more than that.
4th Muse is an awesome live band, they sound perfect. The lazers is quite cool aswell. But there was none connection with the crowd.
3rd The Rolling Stones is a great live band, they drove the stage to the middle of the crowd wich was quite epic. Tons of fireworks aswell.
2nd Dream Theater has given me the best concert experience. But that's becuase I love their music so much. Overall they are not that much of a great live act.

1st Iron Maiden, have seen them 4 times, and going to see them twice this summer. They are great, they got great stage presence, the communicate with the crowd, and plays everything flawless. Also their stage got a cool theme, they have eddy on stage. They've never disappointed me.

Agreed.

I wasn't even a very big Muse fan when I went to see them, won the tickets for free off a radio station.  But I'm a fan now, because they put on one hell of a show.

So, Muse has my vote.

DT might, but I haven't had the opportunity to see them live yet, so.

ZeppelinDT

^^^ If Muse could combine the budget and stage show they've got today with the rawness and creativity they had 6 or 7 years ago, then they'd get my vote.  But I think at this point, at least for me, they've become one of those bands that you go see once, have a great time, then never really bother going to see again.
