"...up until then we do festivals in July in Europe and we'll just play one of the new songs and it'll be part of the mix type of thing. So you won't really see that until the fall, until the album is out and we start to really tour in support of it."

I hope the single is released before hand... I don't want the first time I hear new DT to be live.

That would actually be great. I think Porcupine Tree played The Incident or Fear of a Blank Planet (I don't remember which one) live before it was released and it had great reception.

But this is Dream Theater. LaBrie is good and all, but studio him and live him are apples and oranges. I don't want to hear imperfect versions of the song for the first time.

If you go to one of the shows in the European leg, when they play the song it will probably sound awesome because that's how DT sounds normally. (Not being a fanboi here, the bitching and errors usually come over from bootlegs and re-listening the performance several times) If that's the case, enjoy the thing. If that's not the case, don't listen to any bootlegs of the song.

The chances of this happening were always quite high. Cool to see it confirmed.

It doesn't affect you anyway, since this only applies to the European tour, and not the US leg.

And?

It's not uncommon for bands to do this? :tick2:

Aniland

But Symphony X songs sound just as bad in studio as they do live.

FoaBP. It had already been leaked in an incomplete state, IIRC, but yes that was amazing. The tracks weren't titled yet ... he said the fans had dubbed this one "The Beast" and then they launched into what ended up being called "Anesthetize"... :metal

From earlier posts it was made to seem like it wasn't common practice. I was just providing a recent and relevant example.

Wow, so friendly here today.

Sweet! Less than a month until we can hear DT without portnoy!! Can't wait

How do they sound bad?

But back on topic, bands have played new material months before it is officially released. Opeth played Heir Apparent a month or two before Watershed came out and Metallica Played some songs off DM over year in advance if memory serves me correctly.

I look forward to these bootlegs with great anticipation!  :corn

May God have mercy on your soul.

I'm guessing the song/single might be Loss but Not Forgotten or This is the Life.

I think we'll have the single by the end of June, so fans will be familiar with it when the summer tour starts.

He thinks Symphony X isn't very good.

I don't like them either.  But if you do, that's great.

It's a matter of preference, I actually prefer him live by far. The problem is, in an actual live show I won't be able to focus with all the hype for the new song.
