What the hell is that melody around 10:20????  Damn....Ive heard it before..

I don't know what it actually refers to, but every time I hear it I feel like it's from one of the sonic 1 levels... erm, the marble zone one I think :P

Pound4aBrown

Love the intro.
Love the middle
Really love the end.
Lyrics seem to fit the mood of the song.
I don't know where this one will land for me in the overall scheme,
but right now I am digging it.

Dublagent66

Just finished listening to this song on my 3rd spin today.  It's already my least favorite so far, but what an outro by JP!!  For me, he really saves the song at the end, but with a few more listens, I'm hoping to like it more and more.

Again, Hollow Years.  Why haven't you guys just accepted the fact that this is Hollow Years Part 2?

Because it isn't?

It definitely isn't.

Because this song is really about Kevin Moore.

SinisterMinisterX

Best song on the new album, hands down.

This is the song, more than any other, that just gets more and more awesome every time I hear it. Especially that outro. And the vocals are perfect. And the lyrics are a beautiful tribute.

Just an amazing song. Wow.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. First time I heard it I knew it sounded familiar. I haven't checked, but I'm thinking an Ozzy ballad off either Blizzard or Diary (something like Goodbye to Romance).

Chagny

The thing JP's playing in the intro... It sounds familiar... Really familiar...

Anyways, I love how the shred fades in during the intro. And DT should go back to doing more songs in major, I like that side of them a tiny bit more.

perfey

Listening to the end of the instrumental version right now, simply awesome song. Love the soft beginning and then the up tempo fast melody by JP kicking in. Again awesomely great song 10/10.

InTheNameOfGod

Even though the lyrics are poor, I think he only thing that ruins the song is the 'MY LIFE' bit.

Sounds awful.

I instantly thought of Hollow Years when I first heard it.

Nihil-Morari

10:20 sounds like LTE to me... State of Grace maybe.

The 'my life' bit is really cheesy indeed, but I can listen through it now, more or less.

Dr. SeaWolf

I don't know about that melody, but I definitely recognize the opening melody as being a direct reference to the Styx song of the same name.  I'm surprised nobody here picked up on it yet.

Really great song, by the way.  Definitely has a classic DT vibe to it, reminding me of something from WDADU or I&W.

GuitarStrings

Every time I listen to it, I can't help wanting to cry. It's SO beautiful.

Thank you Mike.

.

ZeppelinDT

Probably my favorite DT song in quite some time.  Absolutely love it.

A very astute call, Blob. :tup

Wait, I'm pretty sure now that I think about it that it's Mr Crowley I've been thinking of. Outro solo.

THANK YOU! it's been driving me insane!

BlobVanDam

So we were reminded of the same song? If so, glad I could help :lol

Jamesman42

Mr. Crowley. . .been a long time since I've heard that song. I need to listen again to see any connections. Great song nonetheless.
\o\ lol /o/

Progmetty

lol yes we were! I just couldn't get my hands on it, just kept thinking "I smell a lil something Ozzyish there" heh

chrisbDTM

i totally get a 'Funeral for a friend' elton john feeling from the beginning section

Tick

This song just hit me ! What a beautiful song. Its becoming a favorite !

Crow

Awesome song... AMAZING HOLY CRAP EPIC solo.
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

Yes, there is a similar vibe.  Good call.  :tup
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

CrimsonSunrise

I think I figured it out!!!  Driving me freaking nutz!!  The melody from 10:20 or so.....  I swear... It's the same exact melody that's playing at the end of the 1977 movie "Oh God"  when  George burns walks away across the park and dissapears.  I'm looking for a streaming version to listen to it...grrrrrrrr.   It was just ..stuck in my head...LOL

TAC

The spacey part in the middle sounds like what you hear when exiting Space Mountain, while you're on that moving ramp.

When listening to it i kept waiting for him to say "But most of all i love you dad" but noooo.

orcus116

:lol Would've fit in with the rest of the words.

Woah.  I hadn't caught that, but you are totally right.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of MP's vocals; I'm very interested in and excited about hearing the version he sings alone.

walmartsecurity

Great song from start to end. the violin at the start was kind of surprising, but a very welcome surprise. I love the leads when the song gets faster.
At 7:45, love Myung's bass. He doesn't have much time in the spotlight on this album, which is very unfortunate.
I love JR's choice of patches on this song. Piano, strings.. just epicness.
Fantastic JP solo at the end, but I didn't like the fadeout much. I think there should be a proper ending to the song but I can't complain, I'm not the one writing the songs =P

Overall, fantastic. it's my 4th favorite song on an album full of favorites.

4/5

This. Although I wouldn't be surprised if we never hear it.

chrisbDTM

i remember reading somewhere that he would probably release it in the future, on like a fanclub demo, etc.
