I am a big fan of Mangini's drumming, but with the exception of EOP, i always found his drum sound not so great.
How do you expect the drums sounding in the new album?
More heavy, more melodic?
My worries are about the tooooonee, and how different will the new album sound because of the drum production.

Well, I suppose we won't have any way of knowing until we hear it.

Of course, i was just wondering what you would prefer more.

Blackfield

I think that have been taken care of to both take Mangini's taste into consideration and obviously how it fits DTs overall sound. Safe to say we're not going to hear Lars Ulrichs St.Anger snare, I'm shure.

I find it interesting that on this forum, the counterpart to "heavy" seems to have become "melodic"...

Metabog

I believe there will be a lot more "heavy hitting" on it. Mangini is a bit more straight to the point than MP was back in the day, and he sure loves beating the hell out of those drums. I've always imagined seeing Mangini in something like Ayreon.

I hope they're juicy or quite sleek

Aniland

I expect more flair. Sort of like what their drumming used to be in "6:00".

Are you referring to the playing, or the actual sound of the drums, or the production of them?

I think, judging by the DT album update thread, since Andy Wallace is mixing the drums will be quite dry and punchy.

I am referring to the drum sound we will get on the album.

In the sticky at the top of the page there is a list of all the albums he's produced, the ones that stood out to me were 13th Step by APC and Toxicity by SOAD. He captures quite a crisp sound on the cymbals and snare.

Dublagent66

I'm hoping the snare is nice and crisp.  Kinda like it sounded on Awake.  Killer snare!

Dellers

I'm hoping for a better sound than what was on BC&SL. Didn't really like the snare, it just sounded thin and too compressed. Actually I thought the snare and bass drum sounded pretty much the same. A little more open and punchy drums would be great, and less "click".

JediKnight1969

Not only the drums, DT11 is going to have a monster sound for sure.

Shumpun

He used the Pearl reference snare in the studio. It is very thick and not deep. I think it will have sharp attack and very clear and crisp.
