Can I be honest? I like this version of HTF better than DT's

It's mostly the singer obviously. He actually has the voice to give the song the balls it deserves.

On the downside, the singer's thick Spanish accent takes away from that delight quite a bit.

rumborak

Yeah, it does, and there are a few antics spread throughout the song that also mar it a bit. But overall I find his voice fits the song a lot better than JLB.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Crap, this cover's good.

EDIT: Darn, I hated the "Don't cross the crooked step"  :lol

You know, the vocal harmonies are pretty cool most of the time. I don't know if they're present in the original, but if they are, kudos for bringing them out; if they aren't, kudos for adding them.

Jamesman42

This is amazing. At least as good as the original. I like the production and mix.
\o\ lol /o/

RuRoRul

Nope. James Labrie actually rocks this song... maybe the reason I like heavy DT stuff and a lot of other people don't is because I don't actually like the vocals they like heavy stuff to go with.

Good cover, and it's good that the vocals are different, but I love James Labrie on DT's, don't really think the harsh vocals give the sections power, and also the accent. So definitely not better than the original for me

Adami

I like the singers approach, but yea his accent is a little much.

Also it's hard for me to get past the snare tone and the overall drum mix.

Wow, pretty good.  I felt like I was listening to DT for a while there.

That was good. But check out their cover of Forsaken .

That's not the same band. It's off the same DT tribute album.

Musically it just sounds like a more muddled version of the DT song. Tones are nearly identical though noticeably different.

Ok.  Didn't pick up on that.  Still I think the singer is drunk.  :D

Listening to these various covers it really emphasizes how difficult it is to sing Dream Theater.

Yeah, same for me.  This cover leads me to the conclusion that the thing I like best about this song is LaBrie's vocals.

Also, Don't Cross the Crooked Step FTL.

I really dig it! I don't like it quite as much as the original, but I think it's a really cool cover, very slick and with some very nice changes dotted throughout.

Rumby, is this the cover album your band is on?

Nah, that's a different one. The album we're on should come out any day now!

The singer's pretty good, but as Rumbo said, he does a few weird vocal things (not related to his accent) that actually made me :lol

"YOUR PATHETIC LITTLE Plaaaaaaaaaaaaan"

It was like Charlie Dominici tried to be heavy.  And Spanish.  :lol

MetropolisxPt1

the Pensive fear line in the take the time cover was horrendous.

SystematicThought

I kind of had a good chuckle at 'Don't Cross The Crooked Step.' It sounded really bad in my opinion

Also the link to The Mirror cover from the same album. It's fucking hilarious  :lol He growls the entire song, it doesn't sound very good at all

I would have actually enjoyed that if his growls sounded good at all.

The singer sounds somewhere little bit like Disturbed vocalist

but yes, cool DT cover, one of the best I've heard.  :tup

King Postwhore

I was impressed except for the crooked step line but overall very good.

Global Laziness

Overall a pretty solid cover. Sometimes the vocals were an improvement, sometimes they detracted from the song, but good overall. Reading through all the comments in this thread, I didn't think the "crooked step" line could really be that bad, but...yeah, it was.

I'm going to listen to the other covers from this album, I hadn't heard of it.

EDIT: I'm tripping balls at the vocals at the beginning of the cover of Home.

Bloody hell that was awful.

Global Laziness

I've actually been listening through these covers. Most of them are pretty bad. Metropolis, Take the Time, and Hell's Kitchen are okay, but that's probably because they sound really close to the originals.

Jamesman42

The Split Screen covers, on the other hand, are amazingly well done.

Well yeah, they kickass, but isn't that by a totally different group of people unrelated to this tribute project?

Oh and by the way, I finished listening through all the different covers and Under a Glass Moon was far and away the best one.

Jamesman42

Yep, totally different group. Just pointing out better covers.
