Actually, I think it's being finished this week. Including mixing and mastering; I'd imagine he's been doing it as things are completed.

Mixing and mastering take at least three weeks in general. Seeing as JR finished tracking yesterday, I'd say that your thought is nothing but wishful thinking.

It's not wishful thinking when you're taking what a person has said. He said it will be done. Not that the recording is done, but that the album itself will be done.

No, it won't. It's impossible, for the reasons I stated above.

Awesomeness   :hat

I'll take a guess...  9 Songs...one Instrumental... :metal

He obviously was only talking about the recording being done, since JR just posted that he finished his tracking, what, yesterday?

ZBomber

Yeah, there is no way the album is gonna be completely finished within the week.

Adami

Aniland, you suggested that they were mixing while recording. It's not that easy. They may have done basic level settings or EQing during recording, but nothing more. It's gonna be at least 2-3 weeks of just mixing and then a week or so of mastering.........................once again at least.

Yeah exactly, I think Aniland is being a little optimistic.

As long as they fill up the disc, which they always do, then I'm good.  ;D

Actually, I would find it a bit refreshing to see the next album being less than 70 minutes long. I'm one of those who prefer a runtime of 45-60 minutes. If an album is longer than that, it can get a bit tiring towards the end.

BC&SL was a quality album though...

Nah.

Says you. I find it to be of a higher quality than both SC & 8V

I would think so. I really hope so!
\o\ lol /o/

The Silent Cody

Great ;) now my idea grows for me, and my hope is bigger than it was  ::) I'm really so excited and I want know or hear something from DT11 like all of you Guys up here I think... do you think that some riffs from Auditions could appear in the new material? especially that one from Thomas Lang audiiton, that one he nailed so well? ;)

The Silent Cody

Shit I'm at work right now and I have no speakers, so I can't listen to it...  >:( >:( >:(

JLB said (regarding the new album):

-Mixing starts May 30 or 31
-Looking toward a release around Sept. 7th or 10th as of this time.
-At the time of the interview, he has recorded 6 songs already and was going to go do more vocals a half hour after the interview.

Someone care to make sure I didn't misremember or miss anything else?
\o\ lol /o/

cyberdrummer

That's all the facts I think. Just wanted to note how excited he sounded about the album, and said the band were 'ecstatic' about it.

I know they always say it, but he was so enthusiastic!  :metal

The Silent Cody

Thank you James :tup
So we have got more than 6 songs. :) That's also good news. Maybe Anilands predictionds were 100% right...  ;D

Early September is way sooner than I thought; I expected something like a 09/21 release.

That commentator is clueless; "The Test That Stumped Them All" is nine years old, not 1 or 2 years like he said.

orcus116

Should just release it late July/early August. Seems like a lot of time for promoting the album and whatnot.

Metabog

Don't mind the song number. Wouldn't have minded a double disc concept album though.  Nice to see the MP leaving thing barely affected their schedule.

Yeh, good point. I didn't even look from that perspective on that...

:omg:.......

Actually... I'm greedy, I want a double album every time out

Would've been interesting to see them play around with the album arrangement. They used to do a lot of cool stuff with the way they arranged their songs (Octavarium with the 5-8 thing, SFAM with the Scenes, Six Degrees with the one-song-disc thing, etc), but now they're kind of just making standard albums. It's OK, but I do "wish" they'd try to do some gimmickry with the album. But hey, we don't know yet, as far as we know it could be a concept album of some sort.

TL

Technically, if you got the Special Edition of BC&SL, the track numbers on the three discs were 666.
That one seems less intentional and more like a happy accident though.

Aniland

So, 8 new Dream Theater songs by early September. I can deal.

I'd rather they just went for a "standard album" with this one, and you can see why they would - a concept/double album would be more controversial and it would be compared to SFAM heavily. They just want to showcase MM and play it safe, so they keep all the new fans they acquired and the older ones too. They may mix it up on DT12 or 13.

It very much is! I would rather have my DT11 album on the 10th than on the 21st. :\

I'm not a huge fan of loooooooooong songs.  I think 8-11 minutes is a perfect length for a song.  There's enough time to expand on themes/ideas and tell a story.  It's not too short as to make me want more and not too long where I get worn out.  I find that a lot of 16 minute-plus songs have that long, dragging instrumental section that doesn't really do much and seems to be there just to make it longer.  I'd rather have 1 or 2 more complete songs taking up that "dead" space.

This is true for some songs (ANTR, ITPOE) but its obvious the instrumental parts for some longer songs aren't just dead space - take ACOS, 8VM, 6DOIT for example. It just depends on the quality of the instrumental part.

The Silent Cody

I agree with Jirpo. Long songs are DT trademark, I can't imagine new DT album without even one long song. I think that could be very dissapointing to a lot of fans.
