who will be the main producer for the album..will it be JP alone..or possibly JP and JR..what do you think..

Tunnel Vision

My guess is that it will just be JP producing.

I seem to recall reading in an interview that JLB said the producers chair is helmed by JP, although I can't remember which interview I'm thinking of.

ariich

It sounds like JP has taken the reins alone, but it also sounds like he is leaving vocal production to JLB and Rich Chycki (sp?) which could add a little variety.

Great, I hope he makes JM loud and clear in the mix. Otherwise DT11 will lose points with me right off the bat.

absolutely agree... also, completely different story (in terms of who's responsible for making it happen, not result), but JMX needs his amp turned up at live performances.

Aniland

Wasn't it Portnoy's decision to mask Myung in bass drum? With him gone, I guess that's gone too (hopefully).

Where did you hear that?

Demolition

According to the Roadrunner website Richard Chycki was brought in to be the new producer/engineer.  I don't know if that is for the whole project or just the vocal sections as I know he is working with JLB on the vocals.

CrimsonSunrise

Who was the Roadrunner guy the last 2 albums?  North-something?  Thought JP said he was in on this one too in a recent interview.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Paul Northfield. He was the engineer, not the producer.

Aniland, this isn't the first time you've come out with total made up B.S. and posted it as if it is fact.  Knock it off.

Oh ace! I figured he was probably just producing the vocals as he's mates with James and it's easier than bringing John to Canada. If he's been involved with the entire process I'll be ecstatic. Fantastic producer. Although it does say he was "recently" brought in, so maybe he's; not been involved throughout. Will read his blog to find out the full story - was just a little excited, felt like responding instinctively.

John and Richard as co-producers, then?

EDIT: No, I'd say it looks like Richard's just the vocal producer. Would've thought they'd've specified in the RR article. Ah well. Still good, though! Like Richard Chycki.

But is he still working with them?? it bugs me if not, hope it doesn't mean there were any kind of problems.

phentalmyst

Paul is the engineer and i believe Chycki is just producing James' parts. i think JP mentioned somewhere that Paul won't be mixing this time around as they want to get a fresh perspective...

DarkLord_Lalinc

Lots of talent and minds in this record.

Am I the only one who thinks DT would benefit HUGELY from an outside producer? Look at what Brendan O'Brein did for bands like Mastadon, King's X, Train, etc. Many of the rock bands he's produced had their own very distinct sound that he was able to maintain, while spurring them to try new things. Compare Mastadon's Crack the Skye to Blood Mountain to see what a huge difference someone like this can make. FII, love it or hate it is the most different DT album in the discography, and I don't think anyone would say it doesn't sound like DT. I think the idea was great, but the producer was a bad fit, and the record label was too pushy in that particular incidence, but I feel like DT threw out the baby with the bathwater because of it. Maybe having JP produce is good in the sense that it's not too many major changes at once, but I have a short list of guys who I'd love to see work with them...

Could be wrong on this, but I can't imagine JP giving up the producer's role, especially given that (AFAIK) Rich hasn't been involved in the writing/recording sessions, aside from recording JL's vocals. So I'd wager that Rich is doing the same thing that Terry Brown did on SFaM - just focusing on JL's vocals.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Nope! Totally right by the looks of things. Corroborated, too, by Rich Chycki's blog.  Think the confusion only stemmed from the RoadRunner article announcing him as a "new producer," which was - in fairness - very misleading.

Not sure why they didn't describe him as the "vocal producer," considering that's precisely what he's doing... but, hey!

I am excited for this record.  :|

That is all.

Metabog

I'm willing to bet JLB will sound better on this album than he has in ages.

Aniland

I hope he pulls a 180 and sings like Mr. Lordi. On every song.
