Given that evidence suggests the new album wont be release until about September, does anyone believe that we will hear new music through the UK dates in July?

How did this play out the last albums which werent released? I cant remember the last album where the band went on tour without a new album out!

Any ideas?

I think it's likely that the new single will be released by then (as it was the case with AROP - BCASL came out a few weeks after the start of the tour), so it'll probably get promoted on the first leg.

Actually, it happend before the release of BCSL, even though the beginning of the tour only dated back to a few week prior the release date and a single (which was the only song played off the new album) had already been put out.

I think you have to date back to the small preview tour before FII to see some new material being played well before the release of the album. But that was an almost unique situation, with the label/band chaos we all know.

On the other hand, when DT toured with Queensryche in summer 2003, they already had completed TOT, which was scheduled to hit the stores by the next fall, and didn't play a single song or preview of the upcoming album.

That being said, I can honestly conclude that I am clueless  :)  (but nontheless I hope we'd get something)

EDIT: tri.ad ninja'd my first paragraph  :lol

If memory serves, they have played one or two new songs from an unreleased album during summer festivals for the last several albums.  I know they played AROP before BC&SL was released, and they played something from 8VM before its release as well - maybe Sacrificed Sons?

I think the OVM content is more likely to be Panic Attack or These Walls, which I kind of remember them... not officially releasing, but releasing edits for radio play.

Did they even tour before Octa was released, though?

Mladen

I'm pretty sure we'll get at least one song from DT11 in July and August.

Yes, they did - same as this year, with European festival dates.

They probably did do These Walls, now that you mention it, but I'm almost certain that they did SS as well.

The 8V tour didn't start until 10th June 2005, so the album had already been released.

SC was released a couple of days after the first tour date, but no songs were played before release. Mainly due to the fact that they played all of Images and Words instead.

BCSL was released on the 24th June 2009, but as you can see here, this time they did play ARoP before its release: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=2960.0

Since Mangini will be the big NEW thing in the summer, I suppose they won't be pushed by fans or push themselves that much to neccessarily debut new material too.

If they were worried about pushing themselves (including Mangini), they wouldn't play much OLD material - the new stuff is obviously what Mangini knows the best...

I obviously didn't use "pushing" in regards to playing the material as such, but in regards to meeting the fans' expactations of hearing sth new.  Mangini can learn and play any song they'd like to play, that's not the issue here.
Because of this, it'll be exciting to see Dream Theater regardless of whether they play new stuff or not.

If they don't want to release new material yet, they could easily just release Manginis audition recordings. I'm sure we'd all like to see the whole thing.

Yup.
And they would have to do it before they start playing live shows, because then we will have hundreds of YouTube videos with Mangini on many DT songs, so the audition content won't be intriguing anymore.

Aniland

I would expect a new single by the end of June, or the beginning of July.

rumborak

I expect the tour to have a lot of classic songs, because that's what the fans will want to see MM pull off well.

None, he already stated that he plays the older songs almost identically to Portnoy, so I don't think I'll notice much of a difference aside from the general tone.

Ok still even if he plays every single note like mp did

There are still some jaw breaking parts from mp i would like to see mm play. I would like the 6.00 o clock intro with one hand  :tup

rumborak

it's gonna be a tough line to walk. On one hand be faithful to the originals, on the other hand not being an MP clone.
