So, which is your favourite encore set among those listed above? Which one of them did you think was or would be the most enthralling and climatic ending to a DT show? And most of all, which one, if anyone, would you like the band to choose for the upcoming summer tour?

For those who may be interested in checking out how these songs worked as the encores of some bootleged gigs, I'm listing here when they have been used to close the shows:

A Change Of Seasons: 2000, 2004
Wait For Sleep / Learning To Live: 1992-3, 1995, 2005-6
Metropolis: 1994-5, 1996-7-8, 2004, occasionally 2006, 2009
Pull me Under/ Metropolis: 2000, 2005-6, 2010
The Count Of Tuscany: 2009-10
Schmedley Wilcox: 2007-8
Encore Medley: 2008-9
Home / Hollow Years / Take The Time: 2002
When Images And Words Unite: 1999-2000
In The Name Of God: 2004, 2005-6

Aquila Chrysaetos

LtL, great closer imo.

Wait for Sleep / Learning to Live

Best concert closer I've ever seen.

Octavarium Tour? If so, did you appreciate the extended instrumental section in the middle of Learning To Live?

Why, yes of course.  :heart

Mladen

Metropolis

Although I saw them ending the show with Encore medley, and it was awesome.  :metal

YtseJamittaja

I'd say ITNOG, that outro is amazing!

skydivingninja

The only DT encore I've seen is Metropolis, but I have a feeling that WFS/LtL would be better.

MetropolisxPt1

I saw them play WFS/LTL as an encore after octavarium on the 8vm tour and it reaffirmed dt as the best concert ive ever been to.

There are a lot of conservative fans who loathe any tiny addition or variation of the original album songs. I'm glad it's not your case  :)

Infinite Cactus

Metropolis. Although WFS/LTL would be the tits I am sure.

JayOctavarium

Tied between acos. And wfs/ltl.  Metropolis as the encore with the orchestra was :hefdaddy though...  it can't be beat... unless the encore consists of Kevin joining them.. but.wfs / ltl with Kevin would be cool.

Aniland

No medleys. Medleys piss me off.

No kidding. Rush does a lot of medleys. I fucking hate that. Makes me feel funny.

Did you know that JP once said that Rush medleys really pissed him off? He said something like: "why don't they play the whole fucking song?" So, I guess, no medleys on this tour, and I'm very happy for that  :)

I'm torn with the same question: acos or ltl? Don't know... Concerning Metropolis, though, I have to disagree: I've always believed it to be the strongest opener, but not the strongest closer, while Learning To Live is the exact way round.

ResultsMayVary

I voted Schmedley Wilcox. Don't hate.

for me, it's almost a tie between that one and TCOT...I went with TCOT

bobs23

I had to go WFS/LtL. On the 8V tour, it was just stunning. The extended jams went through many revisions as the tour went on. Although the San Fransisco jam was easily in my top 5 alltime DT jams, this one was completely different than all the others that I had seen. Every now and again, they would throw in a jam out of left field. Like the BTL jam at MSG or AFIL in Wallingford on the ToT tour. It keeps the hard cores like me in your toes. Sorry got off topic...

Smoke on the water!

Wait... Wrong forum.

Sorry...

Lotion

I've seen Schmedley Wilcox and TCOT as encores, the best one was TCOT imo.. but my vote would be Metropolis, even tho i haven't heard it live. Seems so freakin epic!

Adami

I voted for their best song, ACOS.
www. fanticide.bandcamp . com

?

I like medleys when they are well constructed. But my vote goes to ACOS, although WFS/LTL must be amazing too.

I don't know many of these encores, but here's my ranking of what I know:

1. A Change of Seasons
2. Metropolis
3. Wait for Sleep/Learning to Live
4. The Count of Tuscany
5. In the Name of God

mrjazzguitar

Change of Seasons definitely

emindead

I voted for Wait for Sleep/Learning to Live

But after giving it a though, the best encore DT has ever done was with LSFNY.

I consider both LTL and A Change of Seasons the best encore any fan can get.

Riceball

Considering the only DT show I've been to had to be called off mid-set due to an explosion of awesomeness, I can't really comment.

However, I can throw my support behind medleys as encores; I think they are awesome.

lucky7

I voted for the TCOT but in reality any of the above would be cool

I love a good medley though, I felt robbed in Australia when for their first time here they played a medley back during SC tour.....I would love to see the Instrumedley from Live in Budokan live!!

The Letter M

I went with WFS/LTL because, WFS is just a great way to say "Hey, we're back on stage, everyone quiet down as we play this awesome song"...and then BAM....launch into "Learning To Live". I'd say it's probably the best 14-16 minutes of DT Encore that anyone could wish for.

ACOS would come VERY close behind WFS/LTL, though. I hope we get WFS/LTL as an encore on the upcoming tour so it gets released on an official live album next year (or whenever)!

All of this.

And was Octavarium (the song) never really an encore song other than during the Score show? Because if it was, then why isn't it listed here?

AFAIK, "Octavarium" was the second set closing song and "Metropolis" was SCORE's encore. Actually, I don't believe "Octavarium" was ever used as an encore by itself, but I could be wrong.

Oh, you're right. I'm not sure why I thought that.

In the Octavarium tour I got Pull Me Under/Metropolis pt. 1 as the last song. Prior to that it was The Spirit Carries On.
