Where do you rank Awake among the Dream Theater albums?

Awake is a strange one to rank for me. It's a great ALBUM, in that it's very consistent and doesn't really have any weak tracks. The problem with it for me is that it doesn't have any tracks that I could put in my list of DT favourites. For example, I've got a playlist of my 30 favourite DT tracks and the only Awake songs it it are Erotomania and Voices; and they probably wouldn't be in it if was only a 25 track playlist.

Octavarium on the other hand, has 4 of my favourite tracks. The other half of the album is very weak, but the 4 brilliant songs elevate it above Awake for me in my album preference.

I'm listening to the album for the first time in a while, and very quickly I am remembering why it's my favorite. I love the lyrics so much, I love how the songs are a little more concise than usual, and I love how parts of it are downright groovy! A lot of new Dream Theater is a little much for me, you know?* Awake is just right.

*An example is "The Best of Times". I think most people love it, but it's a little too much for me. It's too epic. It just overwhelms me. Like, one time I watched an action movie with a friend (I think it was Aliens), and he was like, "Dude. I feel tired right now". That's a lot of new DT for me.
