Lol. Some of these suggestions are really unrealistic. Danny Carey in DT? He could never survive the audition we just saw Mike Mangini go through.

Bobby Jarzombek was someone I would've quite liked. But honestly after seeing Mangini in the documentary I'm sold on that, even though I've never really been amazed by him before.

What do you mean? because of the technical or personal aspects?

Martin Lopez  :metal The world would explode if that were to happen. But it's okay, because my drumming idol would be in one of my favourite bands.

The Hiryuu

Jarzombek and Bozzio. But I guess Marco and Virgil auditioning is about as good.

Gavin Harrison

Someone mentioned that he'd be a huge stylistic difference, but that's not giving him the credit he deserves for being incredibly versatile. I never thought from his jazz/fusion background that he'd be playing like he does with PT or OSI. I'd love to hear what he'd bring to DT's table. I'm sure he'd blow all our minds. But too bad...he didn't audition and most likely never considered it due to PT.

Holy crap... Somehow, I suddenly picture DT playing Invisible Touch... :lol

Also, inb4 tick with that Rarebell guy.

It could be nice to have Charlie Z auditioning for the sake of it. I wouldn't have wanted him to join the band though even if he did audition.

Yeah, I'd love to know your reasoning. Carey would be more than capable of handling this audition.
I don't think he would be a perfect fit for a couple of reasons but I would be really interested to see him play with the other guys.

John  Macaluso and Bobby Jarzombek.

B.Lee

Bobby was my first thought when I heard Mike had left

John as well because he has played with James

Joe Nevollo and Thomas Walling. Did anyone mention Gene Hoglan? I don't think he would fit very well but damn, I would have loved to see him auditioning.

How can i forget to list this guy? Probably the best drummer in the world, not to mention that it will be a perfect fit in the band, imo.

Would have loved to at least see Richard Christy audition.  Wouldn't have been any worse of a fit than Derek Roddy.  Christy is just an awesome player and an awesome dude, but obviously he's got his own priorities.

Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who, Judas Priest among others). I LOVE his playing on Derek Sherinian's Inertia album. He has a real creative and dramatic drumstyle which is really cool, a kind of "don't overplay but play the drums in a big way" sort of philosophy.

I love Simon but Toto is touring again.

Vinnie Colaiuta, simply because of this: https://drumalicious.com/?p=16

Vinnie is the man!!  I loved him when I saw him playing with Sting in 1993 on the Ten Summoners Tales Tour.

Morgan Ågren of course.

However he once made a comment that DT sounded like cheap fusion or something. But he would bring great stuff to the creative process im sure.

ShadowWalker

Given his connection to both Rudess and Myung, I am surprised Rod Morgenstein was not on the invited list...
