My daughter texted me today from college..."dad I'm totally addicted to the Count Of Tuscany" which I find TOTALLY
COOL! So anyways it prompted me to pull the album out and man oh man I really LOVE this song. I think it's among
the best of modern era DT. As of this point in time it does belong in my top 10 DT songs. Just amazing!

tartarus250

it has been getting a hard time of late but i'm with you it is an awsome dt track :metal

Chino

Where does you daughter attend school?

I'm just kidding.
I can't put TCOT in my top 10, but def in the top 20.

Ben_Jamin

Nice. It is a great song musically, good thing I have the instrumental disc.

Zantera

It's a great song, but wouldn't make it as high as top10 on my personal list.
In my spare time I make music! Check it out. :)

YtseBitsySpider

Has moved into my top ten.
Yes.

LKap13

Not even close. First four minutes are awesome; the rest of the song doesn't really develop.

tri.ad

Yes, it is a top 10 DT song for me. It barely makes it, though.

pogoowner

Definitely not. It's the best song on the album, though.

JayOctavarium

The instrumental mix might be in the top 30... thats it.

Durg

It's #5 for me.  I was just listening to it yesterday on the way to work.

kartmaze2

The 1080p YouTube live performance of TCoT posted here on the forum a couple of days ago confirmed that it's definitively in my top 10!

Implode

Last I ranked, it was number 3.

jonny108

Probably in my top 5.  Incredible song.  :metal

RuRoRul

I love this song, there's some stiff competition for top 10 but I think I'd make space for Count Of Tuscany.

Incidently my girlfriend also really likes The Count Of Tuscany, even though she doesn't really like Dream Theater in general (and I'm listening to them often enough, she has came to like other bands from be listening to them and I have let her hear the more "accessible" Dream Theater stuff without much success). The 19 minute one isn't really the one I'd expect a casual fan of a band to like...

Edit: On my ranked DT song playlist that I haven't touched in a while it's sitting at #4, so it'd probably end up about there.

lithium112

Definitely top 5. Most likely top 3? Occasionally considered for #2 spot. Amazing, amazing song and definitive proof in my eyes that the band has still totally got it.

BRGM

somewhere in the top 3 along with Octavarium and maybe ITPOE

Ditto for the above...before that maybe top 20  :)

The Presence of Frenemies

#8 on my list, behind the following seven (in no particular order...hope I didn't leave anything out)

The Best of Times
The Ministry of Lost Souls
In the Presence of Enemies
Octavarium
Learning to Live
The Killing Hand (LaTM, of course!)
In the Name of God

This.  The first few minutes and the last few minutes are pure awesome.  The verses and middle section (before the ambient part) are not too interesting.

It would have a good chance of making my top 20, I think.

Not in my Top 10, but definitely fantastic, and most likely in my Top 20.

+1

really liked the song. i could definitely feel contributions from all the members. there were parts that were like, "dude, rudess totally wrote that (like 2:18)" or myung wrote this part, etc. I liked it because i get the feeling they didn't really have a pre-conceived idea of what they wanted the song to be like. like, jp came up with that cool intro riff, and they just added on from there. also, i just want to say I LUV THE 10:47 ONWARDS PART. YAY.

lodeus

Its in my top ten. Maybe even number one.

Good song, but not top 10.  My biggest problem with it is that the volume swell section is too long and sucks away all the momentum of the song.  And while JP is one of the best guitarists on the planet, I've heard better volume swells.  If not for that section, it would be a truly great song.  Great music; great lyrics; fun concept.  Good song.

Absolutely this. Everything up until at least the vocals is tremendous, showing a lot more colour and grandeur than I think anything else on the rest of the album. The ending, by the same token, is just such a great way to end a disc. The buildup from the lone acoustic guitar to the full blown string section at the end and JLB's "Whoas" gets me every time. The ending just makes me feel good, and to me, that's what counts.

EDIT: I also find it really great that the album ends with the sound of birds (Yes yes, let me explain). The birds chirping makes me imagine a meadow with the sun shining down, some trees here and there, just an overall pleasant scene. This contrasts beautifully with the loud, thunderstorming intro to the disc. Having the record start off in a storm and end in sunny skies, that's really cool.

STEVETHEATER

Yes, TCOT is definitely one my favorite DT songs ever! (Top 5 even) Love it from beginning to end.

TCOT is amazing. I love that song. Of course, in my top 10.

Wow, ive never thought of it that way. This idea is cool because the album is about having problems and them getting better, like the storm in contrast with the birds.

But anyway, whenever I've heard that bit, I always just imagened a dock with birds flying around

Jirpo

I imagined a green sunny park.

wolfking

I would probably say yes, amazing song.  Probably number 10 or 9 for me.

?

Not top 10 for me, but probably top 20.

Raoul Sanchez

Musically awesome, fantastic vocal delivery and entertaining as all hell lyrics. I don't see what's not to love about it.
