What if DT had included 'A Change of Seasons' as part of the Falling Into Infinity album.  If they had kept it to a single CD then they would of had to discard a few of the current songs on there.  Let's say then that FII turned out like this:

New Millennium
Peruvian Skies
Hell's Kitchen
Lines in the Sand
Anna Lee
Trial of Tears
A Change of Seasons

Running time 74:30

Do you think this would be considered by a majority of DT fans as their best?

JayOctavarium

That would be great if I acknowledged Hell's Kitchen as a separate song :lol

Seriously though, I would approve

Mebert78

Hmm, fascinating.  I like FII already, but by cutting out the arguably weaker tracks and including the epic ACoS, it becomes an amazing album.

Agreed, although I do like JLMB so add that back in. ;)
:superdude:

Cool Chris

I've posted a FII version including ACoS before but always seem to get slammed for the idea.

I never listen to the ACoS EP (outside the title track, which I have separately) and never listen to FII, but I would listen to the OP's album very often.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

JPX

So you take a song writen in 1989 and throw it on the end of an album released in 1997 to see if it makes it better?

Hell why not throw Home and Blind Faith on there too...

FretMuppet

I'm not sure what would sound better: ACOS with the FII sound/production or FII with the ACOS sound/production

KevShmev

Even though I like the song, I never thought "new Millennium" was a particularly strong opening track.  With this idea, I don't think ending the album with two long epics is the way to go, so I think making "A Change of Seasons" track 1 makes the most sense .  That way, the flow is more balanced, instead of having a bunch of short songs at the beginning and then all of the long songs later on.

Actually that's a good point.  Make it so Number 1.

Also I don't see how ACoS fits on anything but I&W based on how the recording sounds. It would feel completely out of place on FII.

I think it hurts the rest of the songs though to put that long of song as the 1st.  The closest they have ever gotten to putting an epic first is 1/2 of ITPOE.

Huh?

How is a song recorded in '95 featuring Sherinian on Keyboards fit better with I&W?  Production wise it sounds very FII.

I disagree.  Classics like Rush's 2112 and Yes' Close to the Edge were not hurt at all by having the longest song (and a long one by normal standards) as the first track.  I don't think it would have hurt this fictitious album either.

Everything about ACoS sounds more like I&W and nothing like FII.

Lose Anna Lee (and possibly include Just Let Me Breathe, but maybe not) and it looks pretty great. Basically taking out the weak few tracks (or whatever your own least favourite tracks are) and replacing them with ACOS would make any DT album among the best.

Mladen

Here's what an perfect Falling into infinity would look like for me, and I'm prepared to be flamed because I'll definitely exclude some of your favorites:

1. A Change of seasons
2. Raise the knife
3. Cover my eyes
4. Peruvian skies
5. Hollow years
6. Where are you now
7. The Way it used to be
8. Trial of tears

Barely missed the cut: Speak to me, Burning my soul, Just let me breathe and Lines in the sand.

That's not the sign, it requires direct contact. That's what a gym treacher once told me.

But yes... that would be the greatest album of all time.

Borderline epic...I consider TCOT to be that albums epic.

FII is already my favorite DT album.

IdoSC

I'd rather have the FII Demos as the official release of FII, and having ACOS+some other songs from the era (Eve, To Live Forever etc) bundled with IAW, making it a double album.

This is pretty close to what my ideal version would be.  I'd scrap Cover My Eyes and add New Millennium.  And it'd be nice if there were room for The Way it Used to Be.  Fuck it, just make it a double album and include everything.

If ACoS had ben released with I&W, it'd sound the way it does on Live In NY '93 ytsejam release.

LieLowTheWantedMan

I don't like FII, but if it was this way, yeah it'd be amongst the best.

manticore999

I like FII just fine.  Ok, except for You Not Me, but otherwise I thought it was pretty good.  Never cared for ACoS - I listen to it from time to time but can never get all the way through it before losing interest.

Ben_Jamin

1. Burning My Soul
2. Speak To Me
3. A Change of Seasons
4. Hollow Years (demo)
5. Trial of Tears
6. Hells Kitchen
7. Lines In The Sand w/ added verse

Pretty interesting to hear this with crossfades and everything.

The Silent Cody

You Not Me should be on FII, but demo version. That one we could hear on Falling Into Infinity demos. It just way better than studio version, it has that great piano part after second chorus.
