My wishes:

Rainbow - Rising (they already did "Stargazer")

Yes - Close to the edge

Kansas - Leftoverture / Point of know return

Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell / The mob rules

Whitesnake - 1987

With MP out of the band, don't count on any covers.

The Letter M

As much as I'd like to see this happen, I'm not sure if they will... Mike was usually the one who picked covers for the band, being the huge music fan that he is.

I can see John and John wanting to do some Rush, however, and them and Jordan to do some Yes (being that Jordan is a Wakeman fan), so CTTE would be an interesting choice, but I can't imagine James getting the range that Jon Anderson had on that album.

Also, I'm sure the new drummer would have to be capable and willing to play any covers with the band. Guess we'll wait and see.

Elsydeon

If they do infact do another one, I would love to see them do Rush's hemispheres. I remember reading that that is JP's favorite Rush album.

Let's be optimistic.

As far as full albums...basically this.

But maybe they'll cover single songs, or quote songs.  I don't think Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was Portnoy's idea.

Cool Chris

Awesome. Heaven forbid they spend time working on their own material.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

rumborak

Yeah, the full-album thing will probably have been a thing of the past.
Eh, at this point it had been overdone anyway.

PlaysLikeMyung

If they do it, they should do Rush's Signals or Power Windows

Yup.

Also, DT's at the point of their careers that they need to play their stuff live (preferably the newer stuff, with the newer drummer) to reinforce their status and power as a band. The "classic album" thing was a gift for diehard fans (and obviously fans of the covered bands), but things have changed. DT has gained lots of new fans that will probably go to their concerts to listen some DT tunes and not some Metallica tunes.
At this point, I would personally be disappointed if I were to hear a full album covered (unless it was announced previously that it was to be done that night) instead of DT music.

I would like to see them do a full album cover of Rush's "A Farewell to Kings"

TAC

Whitesnake?? Really??

Better than hearing Headed For a Heartbreak TAC. :lol

That's not even remotely funny! :lol

Actually Whitesnake's 1987 album is pure win, but for Dream Theater? C'mon!

Actually I'd love to hear them cover Boston's first album.

Boston's first album would be great.

How about Jelly Roll--Blue Murder

Though I do agree they will be all about their own music this time, and rightfully so.

That's what I figured, and it's OK.

Yopu took the words right out of my mouth. Wait a minute, maybe Bat Out O Hell!

rumborak

I remember Bruce Dickinson's comment after hearing that DT had covered The NUmber Of The Beast: "Good for them I guess, but why would they do that?"

rumborak

SeventhSon

Yeah, I think Bruce mentions that in Lifting Shadows.

I personally would love to see them cover A Farewell to Kings. That's my favourite Rush album, and being from the Toronto area I'd hope that if they ever DID do a Rush album, they'd do it in Toronto. They've done a fair few covers of Rush tunes here in the past, so it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable.

Chino

Mealoaf - Bat Out of Hell
Europe - The Final Countdown
Triumph - Magic Power
Steel Panther - Community Property

RaiseTheKnife

I think they might return to the double show cover theme eventually however, they have too much DT-related ground to make up for with their new drummer on board.  Should be a while until they consider outside music.

?

If I went to a DT concert, I'd like to hear only DT songs, not many covers of songs I possibly haven't even heard.

Rush - Permanent Waves.

Best Rush album, period.

This would be very cool.

The Letter M

The problem with doing a Rush album would be finding one that Jordan would have a substantial amount to do. Because of that, I think either Signals, Grace Under Pressure, or Power Windows would be best, especially the latter.

I know there's some keyboard stuff on AFTK, HEMI and PEW, but I think something from Rush's 3rd period, the Synth-Phase, would be more interesting, especially since the band themselves don't do TOO many of those songs. I mean, I'd love to hear DT cover songs Rush have never EVER played live, like "Losing It" or "Emotion Detector", or even some songs from HYF. Those would be MORE interesting to me than them covering "Cinderella Man" or "Madrigal".

However, I'm not sure how likely it would be, considering that Mike, who I think was the bigger Rush fan than JP or JM, isn't in the band anymore. And even if it was, I doubt he'd pick either 2112, AFTK or HEMI, mostly because he's covered both books of "Cygnus X-1" and "2112" in it's entirety with Cygnus & The Sea Monsters.

However, I wouldn't mind it if they did the entirety of Permanent Waves since Alex Lifeson teased us about them doing "Jacob's Ladder" and then end up NOT doing it for the Time Machine Tour. I know they already covered "Jacob's Ladder", but it would be cool to hear the whole album. Then again, Rush themselves have played 2/3rds of PEW live in the last few tours.

Middletown Dreams could sound epic

Plus it'd give JMX more room to shine :D

Definitely!  That's my favorite song from that album.
