I think this is very interesting. This mechanism actually enables lots of expression in playing.

Ooh that's pretty cool. You'd think someone would have thought of that before, since it's such a simple idea that the keys would slide back and forth.

Yeah, definitely. I think companies are more focused in making more and more powerful keyboard-based instruments than actually newer key action mechanisms. This is great.  :D

Not really sure what else it does, but for $8000 I would think you'd get more than a quarter piano with keys that can slide back and forth. Not really sure about the title either, isn't every keyboard 3 dimensional?

Aniland

It's stupid to call it a three-dimensional keyboard since an actual keyboard only moves in one dimension. This is two-dimensional at best, and even that sounds stupid.

Nevertheless, it's a cool thing. Work on the title, whoever made it.

Oh my god.  Such an obvious idea.  Really like the piece of music he used to demonstrate it.

Yeah, I saw these the other day. It's really neat, but I'm not a big fan of the tone. Most particularly in this one

Something about it just seems. Off.

I would absolutely love something like this, but honestly I don't think the new functionality justifies such a huge price tag. I'll wait for the cheaper knock-offs that emulate it :|

I don't think the sound has anything to do with the actual instrument. I think it works as a MIDI controller, with additional parameters modified with the thingy he does with the keys, like modulation, aftertouch, I dunno.

They aren't spacial dimensions. It's pitch, intensity, and now timbre...though that's what a mod wheel is for...and Morph Wiz can do that too. So...it's not the first 3 dimensional keyboard in my opinion, but it's still cool.

The only advantage to this is that you can modulate individual notes within a chord, which you couldn't do easily with a mod-wheel, which would modulate the whole thing.

It's neat, but Jordan has cooler "toys" and instruments that he can be using. I still love the Haken Continuum, which to me seems like a greater use of "three dimensions" in that it's pressure sensitive, you can do a legato sweep along the "keys", and it can modulate along the vertical position of the keys.

Had I the money, I'd purchase the Continuum over this.

Perhaps a 3-dimensional typing keyboard?

The value over Aftertouch seems pretty marginal to me. Not only that, but your fingers slide out of position with this thing, whereas with Aftertouch they don't.

Yeah, the Continuum concept is still fresh and exciting. Jordan exclusively uses it with one program, but let's remember that as an actual controller, any sound can be assigned.
