Are we gonna get different cover art?

Global Laziness

I've never been a fan of bands appearing on the covers. More often than not, I find it just looks cheesy (although there are obvious exceptions).

Orbert

Whether or not it's "cheesy" depends on who you ask, as does whether or not it's an exception.

Unfortunately, this is true of all cover art, not just the ones with band pictures.

You'll never please everyone, etc.

Obviously, it must not look tacky. Look at Queen II =>  :tup

I dunno. I think I'm partly also just voicing my complete dislike for those collage covers. Just like the AA suite, a decent idea driven into the ground by a misguided notion of continuity.  Or the ass and balls thing. Man am I happy to never have to hear that one again.

Same here.

It should be all black.

It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.

Metropolis Pt. II

Does anyone think that they might go with Hugh Syme again just to show that they are still Dream Theater? To solidify their identity with the new drummer? I think it's a possibility, although I REALLY hope they do something incredibly different for their cover art. I would hate to see another one akin to BC&SL, SC, Awake, or I&W.

Possibly. Yes did something similar after Jon and Rick left in 1979, the remaining members commissioned Roger Dean to do the artwork fo their tenth album Drama, to sort of reel in fans who may have been put off by the fact that they weren't quite the same band.

I think pretty much all of their covers have been awful. Train of Thought is okay, and Scenes from a Memory I can deal with, the last few have been just horrible.

What was wrong with SC? That was a consistent theme/approach. ACOS was the other collage one.

SC had a pretty good cover art, imo. It suited the name of the album quite well. I wouldn't mind seeing someone else designing the next cover art, though.

This guy would be great:

The name of the album should be simply "Dream Theater", and the cover art just the DT logo painted in stone. Kinda: "we are here to stay. We shall prevail. As solid as a rock."

Like Whitesnake's "1987" but classier. Like Beatles' white album. A timeless statement of a classic band.

IMHO.

I believe you have plagiarised this quotation from a film and have not quoted your source. Whoops, wrong thread. Sorry.

Even Octavarium?  I think that artwork is really nicely designed.

Here's my attempt on the new DT cover.
Never made a cover that has less than 10 psd layers.  ;)
I thought ''eleven'' was a cool word, being the 11th studio album.
The heart is a little reference to the I&W cover... where it all began, well sort off.

Steve

I like this... maybe a bit more if the heart wasnt located in his left lung

Very interesting... But instead of the heart, what about (on the right side) the DT´s logo burn mark from WDADU?

BTW the font makes the cover look like a Depeche Mode's album. A different one would be better.

Seriously. Given that WDADU was the start of DT, this could mark a "second start", so to speak.

Yeah I have to say, that's actually a really cool idea.
