And JP (DT)  isnt  progressive rock?
DT has always - ALWAYS - been classified as progressive metal.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Isn't this the same site that John Myung won his award on?

it is....

and DT's popularity has been rocketing since MP's departure.

and i think that's the only reason JMX can win the poll before.

it is a poll, and people vote for their favorite, not even think twice who's the best musically or objectively.

done. and if he doesn't win, it's time for a new planet. Blow this one the fuck up.

Seriously? I think he's a phenomenal guitarist but the best in metal? There are definitely better riff makers out there.
I didnt see Steve Vai on the list, but I guess he might not be considered 'metal' ...  so of the ones in list that they presented... yeah he is def the best.  hands down.  :tup

?

I voted too. I really appreciate Mikael Åkerfeldt as a musician, but JP is still IMO a bit better guitarist. However, if there was a "best metal vocalist" poll, I would definitely vote for Mikael.

How the hell is Hetfield on there, but not Hammett?

Hehehe.  Of course, we know Hetfield does all the rhythm, and is usually praised for being a tight rhythm player, but Hammett doubles a lot of the rhythm parts as well, THEN does great solos on top of it.

Yeah, I had to vote Hetfield.

How anybody can listen to The Glass Prison and not vote him baffles me.

:wtf:  Do you have to join to vote or what?  I see the list but there's no place to vote.

Knguro

JP shouldnt be in that poll, all of those are simple humans, he should be nominated along with God, Zeus, Buda and mayan gods, still he would win!

Surely I'm not the only one on here who cringes when a Hammett solo comes on.  I love Hetfield, but can't stand Hammett's soloing with the sole exception of the black album.  Bob Rock must have beat every decent solo out of him with a tire iron, since it's clearly not in his nature. :)

I voted for Åkerfeldt, who is easily my favorite guitarist (JP, Gilmour, and Dimebag are 2/3/4).  Here's a quote from an interview he did a while back - sums it up nicely:

QuoteIf you ask me, I think a good player needs a good 'tone' that makes it sound like it's him or her playing. A good vibrato: in my world a vibrato that starts with a straight note that with time starts vibrating. Like the vocals of old crooners. A good sense of rhythm, something many great lead players don't possess. Taste: choosing notes from the heart and not from a scale. Technique is also important but not as much as a musical personality. Versatility... many metal players can only play metal music, and it gets real dull to me. If you have all of the above, you're either writing and leading your own great band or you're fucking hired!

Voted for JP.. altho i think Tony Iommi deserve to win it.

I think JP is not going to win when the poll gets to the other band/guitar players forums.

is to early to name him winner.

Dublagent66

That is too weird.  The poll wasn't even there the first time I went in.

Jirpo

Glenn Tipton deserves more then 1%! He was my second or third vote :D

Zook

?

I guess next there'll be a "best keyboardist" poll which will be won by Jordan! :lol

Nihil-Morari

Mladen

We still need ''the best singer'' poll, that one's gonna be tough.  :)

jsem

Outa those it's between Dime, Marty Friedman & JP.

I went with JP. Obviously.

Leper Messiah is one of my favorite solos ever.

Wow, that's a weird opinion to me. His solos on AJFA absolutely slay, and the ones on RTL & MOP are mostly great. The KEA ones are kinda samey but also pretty catchy.
