The moans in Home aren't that bad. It fits within the story where Julian is out gambling and getting drunk while Victoria is cheating with his brother. What's funnier is Nicholas witnesses it before he recalls.

I might be the only DT fan who thinks this but I wish Systematic Chaos was a complete concept album about monsters and evil things and they replaced the non-monster tracks such as Constant Motion, Repentance, and Prophets of War with more monster and evil things themed songs.  And of course they would name the album something different to go along with the monster and evil things theme.  As it stands right now SC seems like a disjointed album to me, but I kind of like the monster theme even if the lyrics are kind of corny at times.

Interesting. I'd probably broaden it more, and say it could be about demons, or inner-demons. ITPOE about dealing with a dark master and his influence in you, "Forsaken" about dealing with a vampire and her power in you, CM about a psychological demon, TDOE about a physical, monstrous demon, "Repentance" about dealing with vices as an inner demon, POW...uhm war I guess?, and TMOLS about dealing with guilt as an inner demon.

Really, the whole album is about battling something bad, be it a physical presence or something within you.

That's too metaphorical, I just want some more good, blatant monster songs.  I'm not that into the whole AA suite thing so I couldn't care if they dropped Repentance for a better monster song for that album.

Hmmm, then I would suggest other bands, who write about monsters more often than not? Dream Theater have never struck me as being a band that would write "blatant monster songs" without some sort of metaphorical meaning to them, however, TDEN is probably about as close as they'll ever get to anything like that. Otherwise, I don't see them doing anything like that again, so if it's that kind of music you're looking for, I'm sure there are tons of other artists (metal or otherwise) who write songs like that! :tup

-Marc.

I'm not saying I'm into that kind of thing on a regular basis.  What I am saying is that SC is a disjointed album because half of it are out right monster songs and the other half are not.  I think it would of been cool if FOR ONE ALBUM ONLY they did the whole thing as the monster concept.  But they didn't and I wish they had which is the point of this thread in the first place.

I don't personally have a problem with them, and I don't let them interfere with my enjoyment of the song.  But my 7 year old isn't going to hear it anytime soon.

Seeing as how MP said Home was Melody's favorite song, I wonder how he explained the moans to a 7-year-old? (which was about how old she was when the interview took place)

I don't know, and I don't really care.  I have enough problems worrying about my own kids to worry about MP's kids.

Probably the same way I do with my 8-year-old daughter:  I don't feel the need to explain anything unless she asks about it.  If she does I tell the truth.  She knows what sex is, and she knows that certain words are inappropriate in certain situations.  So, just because a song contains the F word doesn't mean she can use it at school.
