Definitely.

I like a lot of others, Yes, Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull, Rush and lots of others.  But Dream Theater is a step ahead for me.

Laich21DT

Yes. While I don't always listen to DT the most, they've been my favorite band since 2000, and no other band has been able to buck them from that top spot. There's no event I look forward to more than a Dream Theater concert.

Most definitely  :heart them beyond reason. They are the only band that I have never gotten tired of. The one band where I'm intrigued by and appreciate and love what each member brings to the band, musically and personality wise. They are and always have been the best.  :metal

I love that there are so many fans for a band that until 2011 had minimal mainstream acceptance. I'm proud to be a part of a community that appreciates musicians and the music they produce with such passion and devotion.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Dream Theater has been my favorite band for quite a while, even though there are other bands that are close (Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Avantasia).

I don't know that they'll always be my favorite band, but they haven't disappointed me yet.

I voted yest the first time around and today I can really confirm my vote. There are a lot of bands I enjoy really a lot, and I mean REALLY a lot, but there is no other group that I know as deeply as DT, or that I feel as close to me personally as they are.

It feels to me like they are family, the other bands I love being my awesome friends. /almostmarriageanalogy

This also sums me up succinctly.  :tup

Cable

Yes indeed. Even if some day there is another band's music I like more, and/or I lose interest in them, I will always hold DT as #1 for what they have meant on my music journey. I can not go away from the horizons that have been broadened by listening to them.

Dark Castle

I answered no.
I love Dream Theater, but they've never made my jaw drop to the floor like my absolute favorites did. A stunning band for sure, and probably amongst my favorites, but never in that Top 5.

Lolzeez

No.

Genesis is a band right?

They will always be my favorite.  :tup

Lark the Starless

They aren't my favorite band but they are definitely in my top 5.

This is a "loose" representation of my top 5. Numbers 2-4 are interchangeable, depending on the day.

1. Marillion
2. Genesis
3. Yes
4. Rush
5. Dream Theater

Lolzeez

For me in no order:

Genesis
Dream Theater
Porcupine Tree
King Crimson
and either Rush or Opeth.

Orthogonal

DT has been my number one favorite band going on 15 years.

Opeth was closing in and I thought they would overtake, but my meh reception Heritage only managed to entrench them at #2 instead of supplant DT at #1.

Dellers

Nope. My favorite band by far is Earth, Wind & Fire.

MoraWintersoul

If we looked at the strength of current material (the past ten years or so), there's about 15 young bands who'd blow them out of the water; but DT got me into prog, into weirder music in general, and therefore saved me from musical boredom. For that they'll always be my favorite band.

commanderbob

Fan since 1992.  My friend at work introduced me to PMU, and every day for like a week I would go out to their car and listen to just PMU over and over.  I'd never heard anything like it and was blown away.  Took me a couple of years to get into all of their songs, since I was used to straight ahead metal.  So some where in there they unseated Led Zep as #1, and it's been that way ever since. :metal

Ruba

No. I'm not even sure if they are in my top 5 anymore, but definately in top 10.

Although DT aren't my favorite band, I have to agree that the guys feel closer to me than the members of many other bands. All the behind-the-scenes videos, interviews, etc. give a lot of insight to their personalities and make it easy to relate to them, and not all bands are like that.

Shadow2222

Dream Theater is definitely my favorite band. Since I discovered them in 2008, they have remained #1 despite all of the other great bands I've found since then.

Onno

#157
Yes, by far. Following are Opeth, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree as well, but I like all SW solo stuff, whereas I don't like all PT albums), Anathema and Pink Floyd.
EDIT: Wow, how did I forget Devin Townsend and Leprous.

Setlist Scotty

Started listening to rock music around 1980 and Rush was my first favorite band from the time that I first started to focus on specific bands. I got into DT back in 1989 but their climb into my list of favorite bands took a few years. However, by 1998 I realized that I was talking more about and had more interest in DT than Rush. That said, Rush has remained a close #2 favorite, but DT has remained my #1 band ever since.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Rattlehead

The Stray Seed

Ever since I first listened to DT album (it was I&W btw), they absolutely are my favourite band. Even though I like a lot of music out there, other bands are not even close to them.

dragonmaster715

not only is dream theater my favorite band but me discovering them sparked a massive expansion of the kinds of music i like, leading to many other  bands that i currently like

Unlegit

For sure, although before they were definitely my favorite band. Now there are actually some bands that compete with Dream Theater, notably Rush, Pink Floyd, etc.

FourthHorseman

1. DT
2. Zeppelin
3. Pink Floyd
4. Rush
5 A7X/Metallica/Jimi Hendrix/The Beatles/MGMT/Sublime?

Although I'm still in the obsessive discovery phase with DT, so we'll see in a couple years

1. Dream Theater.
2. Pantera.
3. The old Sepultura.
4. Death.

I forgot to say that I`m a DT fan since the WD&DU days.

I f...ing :heart love DT.

I DREAM about a side project between Petrucci, Myung, Minnemann (remember his days in Kreator) and Phil Anselmo.

Far beyond awesome.

adastra

Kinda hard to say o.o
Dream Theater may be the most influential band for me, But I'd still say that Emperor or Nine Inch Nails is my favourite

Forever wilt I bleed for Thee.
Forever shall I praise Thy dreaded name.
Forever will I serve Thee.
Thou shalt forever prevail.

Inno a Satana!

TheGreatPretender

Yes, by a long shot. I like all sorts of bands, but DT is the only one that can satisfy me, regardless of what type of music I'm in the mood for.

Other bands in my top bracket include Duran Duran, Twisted Sister, Queen, Megadeth, Rush, Van Canto, Fear Factory and Within Temptation. But none come close to Dream Theater.

Jaq

Wow, thought I answered this.  :lol

No, they aren't. I don't particularly have a favorite band anymore-if I had to pin it down, I'd say Iron Maiden, but only by a hair over Between the Buried and Me-but they were my favorite band from 1992 to 2002 or so, where they were supplanted by Opeth, who held the spot until around 2008 or so, which is when I stopped really thinking I had a favorite band. They're on my shortlist of blind buys, though, and that's a very short list these days.

Virtualman64

Actually no.Rush is still my absolute favorite, with DT taking a close second.

No. Second place as Rush will always and forever remain my favorite band (and has over the last decade or so).

Well, sometimes DT is second - other times it might be Transatlantic, Spock's Beard or The Flower Kings. Or Porcupine Tree.

Either way, DT is top 5 for me.

-Marc.

this, except replace Transatlantic, Spock's Beard and The Flower Kings with Symphony X, Opeth and Tower of Power.

Theme Dreater

I voted yes....but honestly it is a tie between Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and DT. I don't let a day go by without listening to one of those bands.

eviljust

Definitely yes. Listening to them most of the time, everyday in my car, when I wake up, when I try to go to bed and wait for sleep.
Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Opeth, Shadow Gallery, Death and Meshuggah are constantly in my playlists and I love them.

aprilethereal

I thought about this again. I'd say Opeth is my #1, because of how they changed my view on music, guitar playing, songwriting, musical styles, vocals and just for their influence on my personality and the emotions in their music. The "problem" is that I only listen to them very rarely nowadays, so when it comes to what band I'm most enthusiastic about and what band is the most important for me now, I'd say it's DT.

The Jester

My favourite bands include Marillion, Genesis, Rammstein, a-ha, Joy Division, Gazpacho, Pink Floyd and Dream Theater. Marillion are my absolute favourite, the rest are interchangeable.
