An intriguing possibility, and a means for the guys to get their creative juices out  :tup

orcus116

At the moment I don't even trust their abilities to produce the usual 75 minutes of quality music for a regular album so a double album is kind of frightening to think about. I think it'd be better if they came out swinging with a 50-60 minute album of very tight music.

Voyage 34

I see them playing this next album fairly conservatively with the new drummer and all. A double album seems too adventurous.

Really? I think a conservative play would be a pretty poor idea for the coming album. With so much anticipation brewing in the fanbase, a radically adventurous effort is the way to go in my opinion.

The reason why I think conservative is the way they are going to go is because they will probably need a lot of time with new guy to do something really epic. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see DT11 being super adventurous.

Aquila Chrysaetos

Unless the flow with the new drummer is as good as it was with MP (or better) I don't see them making a double album...

John94

Doubt it will be double but I have a feeling it will have a concept album.

Metabog

I really really really really really really want a double disc.

tri.ad

It surely would be interesting, but I think that the next album will be a single disc album.

TL

It should be a quadruple album about the Count of Tuscany making a Starbucks run, and running into JP again when he gets there.

But seriously, it should be whatever happens naturally.

A new concept album. The Count of Tuscany pt. 2. :neverusethis:

I really don't want a double disc filled with "prog madness".. I want a good cd with 9-11 songs, from 5 - 13 minutes. I really love their epics, as someone said.. rather 3 good 8 minutes song than a 25 minutes song!

I trust that they'd make music I enjoy, though I like the last couple albums (especially BC&SL) more than you. But I gotta say I'd have to agree, a much shorter album with a lot more thought put into it would be great right now.

dongringo

If they are on a roll in the studio and they need a double album to fit all the awesomeness then yeah...a double album.

?

I doubt they'll release a double album, although it'd be a cool idea. Maybe the 12th album could be double, but this is their first album with the new drummer, so I don't think they'd put out such a massive album as his debut.

Ryudomo

Perhaps they will in order to show off the new drummer's skills.   ;D

I have same feelings

hefdaddy42

I see no reason to expect a double album.  They've only done that once in their career, and that wasn't even the intention that time - it just happened.

So, this will be a normal album.

BRGM

It would be cool, but how could we know now?

Groundhog

While I'm not a big fan of SC and BC&SL I would like them to go for a double album. I want them to take risks on the upcoming album and be more experimental. They've become too predictable for me. JLB has expressed the interested to do a piano album with Rudess and I think it would be great if they would expand that idea to making a semi acoustic music with DT. Have that as a second disc and other disc progressive metal. That would be awesome.

Zantera

I don't really want it.
As i see it, fine if it would be as good as 6DOIT (quality-wise), but if it's like the last 4 on that front, then a double-album would be painful to get through.
A 50-60 minute album would be cool.
In my spare time I make music! Check it out. :)

Metabog

How about if it was an album-length song? Something like ACOS but... longer, and with more seasons.

Mladen

I'd prefer 70 minutes of music, thank you.  ;)

The Letter M

The ONLY way I could justify them releasing a double album would for one reason - to allow the new drummer to be able to play more NEW material on the upcoming tour, if not the WHOLE double album, to take up more time in the set list, allow him to learn less old songs (yet classics, I'm sure), so he's not overwhelmed with having to learn a MASSIVE amount of back-catalog, especially if they plan on keeping the rotating set lists.

If the album reaches 100+ minutes, that'd make a nice opening set - how's that for a mind-blower, opening the show with the whole new album! Ha! Then doing a set of classic songs, then an encore (most likely Metropolis).

Otherwise, just put out 70-80 minutes of music, trim the fat and release the best of the best from the studio jams.

I'm not sure that'd be the case. With a 120-150 minute show, aside from the new album, you're probably only asking him to learn maybe 12-15 additional songs, which shouldn't be too difficult. 20 songs tops.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Metabog

Wow, I'm surprised so many people are adamantly against another ACOS-style album, considering that's one their best. ACOS has more powah and energy in those 20-ish minutes than BCSL and SC combined.

orcus116

Huh? You suggested a 60-70 minute song, not something 20 minutes or so like ACOS.

Lowdz

Am I right in thinking a double counts as 2 albums sold for the US charts? It may be a way to improve on the last chart position as everyone is going to look for this one to fail.

edit. Silly me. They did this with the last one of course.
