The Hiryuu

I'm surprised by all the Panic Attack hate and These Walls love.

sonatafanica

I've never really liked Panic Attack or These Walls. They're o.k.

dethklok09

love both of em just like the rest of the album

TL

IMO, Panic Attack and These Walls are both solid, enjoyable songs.

The Dark Eternal Knight

Yeah, Panic Attack is a good song... probably my favorite "single" by them

yeshaberto

both great tunes on a great album...how did it not get voted as top 10 all time concept albums

i think most people enjoyed Panic Attack when 8V was the new album, and even into the SC days. But with recent pushes of attention with Guitar Hero, this past year's setlists, and the fact that it is their most well known song in the last 8 years, is has cause some people to over-analyze it, or just think it is an overrated song.

And to think, some fans would like to see DT get radio airplay. All it would do is cause many fans to despise the hit single.

anyway, i want to make a list

1. Octavarium (10/10)
2. Sacraficed Sons (9.5/10
3. These Walls (9.5/10)
4. The Root Of All Evil (9.5/10)
5. Never Enough (9/10)
6. Panic Attack (9/10)
7. The Answer Lies Within (7.5/10)
8. I Walk Beside You (7/10)

Adami

To be fair, my dislike of Panic Attack has nothing to do with Guitar Hero or over analyzing it. Hell I never even under analyzed it.

I just can't stand the song. It's overplayed only to the extent that they're playing a bad song live over and over. It would be a bad song if it were never played live too.

The concept behind it was too mindblowing for people to understand.

TALW- boring but I don't tend to skip it

Bone_Daddy

The bottom of the list for me. Some of the songs on the album are OK at best. Octavarium itself, is not anything to my liking.

well you must not be a very big dream theater fan

LTE3

This album took a while to grow on me, and now I really appreciate it. I still am not a fan of I Walk beside you, but the rest of the songs are unique and great in concert. Seeing Ocavarium live was killer.

jjrock88

I agree completely with LTE3; it is a grower for sure.  I was disapointed at first but have grown to like it alot.

octavarium for me, is one of the strongest DT albums. I love the side of DT that isnt always super conceptual and big giant 3 hour long songs. Ive always wanted them to make another falling into infinity-esque album, just of seperate songs, with not too much secret concepts combining them all. Octavarium is the closest thing we've had to that since. Also, i think octavarium the song in itself is the best song Dream theater have ever made bar none, and i would put it in my top 15 songs of all time, which is pretty huge because my other preferences in music aren't very metal/prog orientated, and it's not my favourite style really, but yea i think that song is huge.

p.s. i know there is concepts behind octavarium, but i think theyre very tasteful in that they dont interupt the music too much, but theyre just a very cool side behind the album.

These Walls and the Title Track have always been my favorites.
