Who else would be disappointed if Mangini is the chosen one?

This, except it isn't a matter of how long we wait - the more I hear about it, the less I want to hear about it.  If the band, and MP, and everybody else within 100 miles of this debacle would've just STFU for the past few months, I might give a shit who joins the band.  At this point, I don't.

I'd be disappointed. Then again, I'd be disappointed with any drummer other than Gavin Harrison.

For the five-billionth time, Gavin Harrison is a definite no.

I would be really sad if GH abandoned Porcupine Tree for Dream Theater.
This is also correct. I still think GH is the best man for the job, because he's pretty much the best man for any job.

I would only be a little disappointed. I really think Mangini is an incredible drummer, but I've been hoping it has been Lang this entire time. If Mangini or Minneman is chosen, I believe their drumming on the next album will be awesome, but I would always wonder how it would sound if it was Lang behind the kit.

I would be very disappointed. As other have said, he seems to have speed and little more. Other drummers have a lot more to offer.

teoevans

I'd be extremely disappointed.... Not the right style.... not the right drummer for DT

I wouldn't be disappointed. Mike is a great drummer. But, as I say many times before on different boards - I'm sure, new drummer is not Mike Mangini. He's a tutor at Berklee. And DT require a full-time busy. I doubt if he prefer DT.

The main reason Mangini is suspected is specifically because he's apparently quit all of his teaching jobs.

Hadn't heard this. Any sources?

yea seriously, i think he's got his hands full with Porcupine Tree  and King Crimson

I would only be dissapointed to a certain extent. I think Mangini could pull it off, and would be able to accept this decision, but I sincerely hope it's Minnemann. I would be very dissapointed if its Aquiles though. LOL at people hoping its Gavin Harrison. As eargasmic as that would be, I don't think people should bank on him being the new drummer, which I'm sure has been pointed out a gazillion times before on this forum (edit: above posts )

I agree. This is just getting silly. I'm past the point of being curious now.

I would be more disappointed if it were Priester or Wildoer.

DT has a history of elevating the musicians within.  DS came into his own as a keyboardist because of DT.  LaBrie became a far more nuanced vocalist.  I like some of JR's pre-DT work, but he grew as a musician like never before starting with SFaM.

Mangini has room to change and grow as a drummer.  I think on a fundamental stylistic level he fits the band very well.  If DT encourages him to become a better drummer, he could create an identity within the band that combines the drumming style MP established with his own individuality.

You are right!, and this gives me something to look forward to...

Considering Mangini was my first choice I would be extremely excited if he is chosen.

you guys at DTF really know how to open good threeds

just joking...

I want to be thoroughly disappointed by your first post, but your awesome avatar makes it so I cannot be.

Stoneyman

I would like to see it be Marco, but Mangini is still pretty awesome.

Then again, as long as DT feels the guy is the one then I am behind them 100%!

farren

I'd be cool with a DT with a drummer who is just a drummer.  A very good one, but just a drummer. I think a guy like Minnemann would get bored or otherwise feel a bit stifled over time and not last very long.  I think Mangini would stick with the gig, and I'd love to see a stable lineup.

That, sir, is what I was counting on  :)

So, to add a constructive post; I think we arent qualified (at least Im not) to judge if someone is or is not a good fit for DT. I have full confidence in JR JL JM and JP. Its not like they havent been 25 years in this business, so I kinda think they know whats best for them...

Adami

DT obviously will get someone who can play all of their older songs, so I don't have to worry about that. And none of the drumming on the past like 4 CD's has really caught my attention, so whoever they pick will be fine.

Somewhat, yes. Problem with this wait is that I've had time to get familiar with the choices. Mangini is obviously fast and a good drummer, but nothing I've heard has excited me. Marco Minnemann John Macaluso and Thomas Lang, however, have. But if chosen, I would definitely give Mangini a second chance.

This conveys how I feel pretty well.

wolfking

What a terrible thread.  Anyone who thinks Mike is not a good choice should go and listen to Steve Vai's Bangkok/Fire Garden Suite, or just watch this.
