Yeah, that's what I wanted to say too.

Why wouldn't they?

I hate mp's sticks the nylon tips ruin the feel for me.

Pirate

I love them but why did they have to stop printing them in PURPLE?

Thank God they're finally black. The purple one's were horrible in my opinion while the rest of the hickory line was black.

He must have stopped smoking the purple. ;)

They're great practice sticks but they are just to heavy for live performances imo.

chrisbDTM

Too heavy? Wat.

Incredibly light pair of sticks. Smaller than 5A's

SystematicThought

Yeah, they're actually pretty (really) light and perfect for the size of my hand. Also, I love nylon tip, so I was a big fan right away.

MetropolisxPt1

sorry i was talking about the nylon tips not the sticks, The tips are to heavy for my cymbals and produce to much wash when using my ride. They also give you a much stronger more pingy attack that sounds terrible on my ride.

I use MP sigs to practice because i got tired of buying new sticks when the tips chipped but I have always liked Vic firth HD4's and Dave weckl sigs for gigs

This is actually one of the reasons I bought a pair of MP signature sticks. I love Vic Firth 5As, but these have them beat IMO.

It's all about Pro Mark 7A's

Just sayin.
Pro Mark does make one hell of a stick i have yet to break a Pro Mark stick where Vic Firths seem to chip and break/split much faster.

SystematicThought

:lol I broke an MP signature stick. The other PM sticks I haven't broken

metropofreak

I have broken a good number of MP signature sticks   :'(

Still love them though

bump for an interesting tweet by Portnoy (no, I don't follow him on twitter, but through a series of searches for other stuff, his name came up and I looked at his page for fun and saw this):

https://twitter.com/MikePortnoy/statuses/281846542388838400

"@gabsarsil: @MikePortnoy Are you thinking in return to DT?" NOT LOOKING LIKELY...THEY HAVE DONE SOME IRREFUTABLE DAMAGE BEHIND THE SCENES

Hmmm, I'd love to know what this supposed irrefutable damage is.

Probably something along the lines of hiring one of the most lovable drummers on the planet as a replacement, I'd guess.

It's like watching a springer spaniel crossed with animal.

Also: what darklol said.

theseoafs

The way he words it, it would seem like it's his choice whether he returns to DT. :lol

Yeah, saw that also yesterday. That Q&A had some other interesting answers too, as who wrote Take The Time's lyrics.

It's sad to think they have some serious problems, I personally would love to see them together some day again, maybe not in DT but only that they could be still friends...

And I want to that f*cking new LTE record!!!!!

I hadn't thought of that.  If you look at the OP in this thread, he basically says that he'd go back if they let him, but they aren't letting him.

Now, he is implying that he wouldn't go back because of stuff they have done that no one knows about.

It's hard for any of us to really know what has gone on behind the scenes, and I suspect those who have more of a window into it all still don't know a lot of what has happened, but it's always interesting to see how someone, who is used to getting their way, reacts when they don't get their way.

King Postwhore

Mike, please let it go.  Stop answering every tweet.  I still love your playing in most bands your working with now.  Concentrate on that and we still will follow.

I also think it's the legal stuff that he's talking about.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

DarkLord_Lalinc

And the DT guys have been the absolute winners at this, by remaining silent and classy. I've come to face that MP will always recur to this kind of things when he's asked and that he'll always play under the shadow of Dream Theater. I sincerely doubt (I may be proven wrong, though) that any of his side projects will reach the amount of success and influence that Dream Theater has. People will never cease asking him about Dream Theater, and Portnoy being the "LOLIMSINCERE" person he is, will always answer things that will create controversy amongst DT fans. I enjoy A LOT his side-projects and I do hope they are successful enough to support him, but some things are meant to never change.

Agreed.  When you are as successful as DT has been (relatively speaking, they have been very successful when you consider the thousands of bands every year that never make it), there has to be a ton of financial things going on behind the scenes, as well as copyrighted/legal stuff, so I could see them (or their lawyers, more specifically) not wanting him to be able to use the DT name to promote himself, simply because he is no longer a part of the band, and I could see that pissing him off, which would be understandable, but it is one of those business things that bleeds into personal issues.

Kotowboy

So how long has MP been " over " DT and " moved on " ?

5 mins now is it ?

Haha. " Oh I wouldn't go back anyway ".

Is a bit like " I don't even want the toy ".

Obviously Mike has gone back and forth. Which is normal, seeing as DT is a huge part of his identity and life history. Can't blame him. In fact, I applaud that he's outspoken and honest. Good for him. Gotta love Mike's balls-to-the-wall, let-it-all-hang-loose style. There aren't too many "bad boys" left in the prog rock world.

Kotowboy

He's certainly blazing a trail.

But it smells funny.

Don't know about this.  If he were kicked out of the band then I might see that, but as it stands there's nothing even remotely "bad" about quitting a band and then generating a bunch of bad PR in interviews, on Twitter, etc.

nikatapi

I can understand MP being pissed about some stuff we might not know, we have to remember that he is responcible for the success of the band in a big way, so he might still consider DT "his" band.

But damn, this whole "it's THEM, not me" attitude about almost everything that is quite annoying. If there is something to accuse DT members for, justify your accusations, not simply say vague stuff.

And the funny thing is that he acts surprised when these tweets-comments are becoming headlines on Blabbermouth, at this point it seems that when things are quiet in the media about him he makes a controversial comment just to get a little attention again.

DTFan0789

When your underground, cult prog band reaches number 6 on the Billboard Top 200, maybe that's not the best time to decide to take a 5 year hiatus....

Maybe someone peed on his rug.

Well, no-one took his legs, so we'll have to assume that this is a correct hypothesis.

Zydar

I haven't seen a marriage analogy yet over this.
