ok... what if the next tour DT does included more accessible material... If they played more singles. Shorter songs... Meaning more songs. Kind of like on the Maiden tour, but not just focusing on just heavier songs... How would you guys feel about that? maybe through in one or two longer songs?

It might help the new drummer, playing shorter and more concise/groove-oriented songs might be a good transition for the new drummer.

I wouldn't mind a setlist of shorter songs, maybe about 15 shorter songs (in the 4-8 minute range), and a couple longer songs (opener, setlist closer, an encore) to round out a set of about 120-150 minutes long. I wonder if the band will have their new drummer do a drum solo, either as part of a song (a la "Ytse Jam" or "Erotomania" or "Caught In A Web"...actually doing any of those would be great!), or as a stand alone piece (like Jordan's solos) to show off the new drummer?

Actually, it might be more like a Rush-like set list, shorter songs, a drum solo, a couple longer tunes... Yeah, I'd be down for that.

I usually like DT's longer, "less accessible" songs best, thus those are the ones I would like to see live the most. So I would probably not be that thrilled by a short songs only set, but I think short songs are nice now and then in the set list. I think I would prefer a 50/50 mix (# of songs) of the shorter half and the longer half of DT's repertoire.

This is an interesting thread. Say they start off a tour with a bunch of singles, maybe a couple of epics and only one track from the new album, the first single. In that case, I'd like the set list to look like this:

1. Overture 1928
2. Strange Deja Vu
3. Caught in a web
4. Peruvian skies
5. Take the time
6. NEW SONG
7. Endless sacrifice
8. Panic attack
9. Just let me breathe
10. Wither
11. The Dance of eternity
12. One last time
13. The Spirit caries on
14. Forsaken
15. About to crash (reprise)
16. Losing time / Grand finale
- - - - -
17. Pull me under / Metropolis

Just under two hours. I think it's a really good rockin' set, actually.  :metal

As I Am

I could see this setlist, absolutely. BUT, with a few changes (noted below)

1. Overture 1928
2. Strange Deja Vu
3. Caught in a web
4. Peruvian skies
5. Take the time
6. NEW SONG
7. Endless sacrifice
8. Panic attack NEW SONG
9. Just let me breathe
10. Wither
11. The Dance of Eternity NEW SONG
12. One last time NEW SONG
13. The Spirit caries on
14. Forsaken NEW SONG
15. About to crash (reprise)
16. Losing time / Grand finale
- - - - -
17. Pull me under / Metropolis NEW SONG

It'd be a cool change of pace from the usual setlist of 7-9 really long songs. As a comparison, Rush typically plays about 3 hours of shorter songs, from what I remember.

I could see them busting out tons of good stuff from Awake and FII, in addition to more recent songs that newer fans would be familiar with. Maybe even squeezing in an instrumental or two. Of course, the instrumentals would have to be not all that lengthy to accommodate all the other songs played. Four minutes and sixteen seconds tops, I'd say.
