I just wanted to point out on one of the stems (The Count of Tuscany- Drum Stem) right before Mike starts playing in the beginning, Petrucci is playing a completely different riff in the background

So based on the stems, how much better of a production could you actually give the album?

Well that's subjective. I don't think you can make it sound much better than the recording, considering all of the things to make it "better" are already done on the stems. If they gave raw stems (which are basically the sounds you get from instrument to microphone) I would use my own compression, EQ, and effects to try my luck at making the record sound great.

Perpetual Change

I actually just opened up the stems for the first time in awhile. I'm too frustrated to try doing anything. I want to turn Myung up, but his stems sound so bad. The only thing I can really do is bring Jordan out more and turn John P down some.

I thought the stems were absolute shit.  Couldn't really do anything worthwhile with them.

Oh, and I still have a silver ticket in my box.  I couldn't make it to the show this tour, so hopefully they honor it.

Perpetual Change

The most annoying things about the Stems is the way Jordan is handled. All his patches are just thrown together. So if you keep his string patches during AROP but take out all the annoying sitars and sex noises, tough luck.

If it was worth full price to you back then, and you bought it, what was the problem?

Maybe I'm not remembering right, but when it first came out was it a "Limited Edition" thing? I guess everything non-digital is technically limited, but I would've expected something that had a 2K or even maybe a 5K run to have sold out by now.

They made 14,000 of them. I think I remember hearing that 10-12 thousand sold around the time of the album release.

I purchased it straight away because with them touring Australia, I wanted a silver ticket, apparently not so lucky.

At least at this reduced price, it may be a good Christmas present for a lot of people, and in a better price range for the younger fans.

I do wonder if they have done this (slashed the price by half) to see if people still buy DT stuff now that MP has announced he is leaving.

I paid $130 for mine, but I am really not bothered by this.  I don't know why everyone else would be, did anyone seriously consider when it came out to wait like a year and half just to get $85 bucks off...of course not.  I wanted it when it came out and I brought it full price, there's no problem, everything gets reduced after time.

Haha, love it. I guess 14,000 is a "limit" too :lol

Yeah, 'limited' definitely wasn't exactly the most accurate way to describe it, but it sounds great when you're marketing something.

Given the Black Clouds first week sales, you gotta think of what that says. "We know 1/5th of Dream Theater fans are insane and will spend whatever we ask them to on a new album."

I chose to get Opeth's Royal Albert Gig for 22 bucks (XMAS10 coupon and free shipping).

Bringing back this thread for a quick question:

In the description back when I bought in last May, it said that the boxset came with exclusive artwork or extended artwork for the vinyl. My question is, what extended artwork? There's nothing new or different from the vinyl that you can find in stores. In fact, the normal vinyl set has more artwork than the one in the limited edition box set

TheSoylentMan

I just ordered mine! Got some birthday money today.

Ben_Jamin

FUCK!!!!! If only my FYE gift card was a visa gift card then I could've gotten this and another album....But maybe I can. Would love the stem mixes.

That's a good choice too. Do you know how often Roadrunner does these promotionals?

Nick

I understand your frustration Lat, I remember them releasing the number of these they were making and going into a RAGE on here because it was so many calling it "limited" was a fucking joke.

purpleplanet10

i got one for Christmas.. it was to expensive the first time around. So my wife suprised me with it on Christmas morning. very cool, but i can see where it would suck that some people paid full price for it, but thoes people got the meet & greet chances that we did not get, so that kinda makes up a little for it (if you got one of the M&G that is)

Nick

Not really. There were what, 100 tickets I think? I believe the run was 55,000 of those things. Let's say there that a meet and greet is worth $200, derived from a large portion of premium ticket packages. 100 into 55,000 is .18% chance of winning. .18% of 200 is .36 cents. Meaning the chance of winning a meet and greet in those box sets raised the value... 36 cents.

Psy

I've listened to the stems and I like the fact that you can hear JLB's headphones in the vocal track. :P
