I was watching my When Dream and Day Reunite DVD and thought wouldnt it be cool if for the 30th anniversay (25th might be too soon in terms of drummer replacement) of DT they did a one off 3 hour concert and filmed it for DVD with all the current and past members of DT?

As far as I see it, it would be:

Vocals: James and Charlie (providing lead and backups)
Guitar: JP/back up from Jordan?
Keys: JR, DS & KM
Bass: JM
Drums: New Guy & MP on a super Double kit.

Now some people might think this is a silly idea but I think it would be an unreal one-off concert and also think of the Jams/interludes that could occur.  I beleive Dreamtheater is not about 5 guys in a band but the sum of all parts including that of the prior members that contributed to the magic of the songs and it would be a great celebration of 30 years of DT music.  What are everyone elses thoughts on this?

Just not the kind of thing I put any thought into.

CD, DS, and KM (who isn't even a possibility) would not be able to take the heat.  CD's voice isn't suited for metal, he's more of a rock/pop guy.  And JR would play circles around DS and KM....they are both good but not nearly as good as JR.

WDADR was embarrassing.

Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

James and Charlie were both really bad even though Charlie's guest appearance was supposed to be the highlight.

What??????????????????????????

It wasn't supposed to be the highlight.  It was a bonus, as was Derek.  And it was loads of fun.

It wasn't James's best night, but it was far short of embarassing.

Ok it wasn't THAT bad.  But fans beforehand were begging the band to remake WDADU with James's vocals.  Mike basically gave us WDADR and said, ok guys, this is the definitive version you're looking for.

If I'm going to have a definitive version of something it's got to be done professionally, without James's live f***-ups.

BrotherH, I hear what you are saying. You were hoping for a Live At The Marquee in the studio performance...but didn't it have something to do with the old record company owning the rights or something like that.

But please do NOT overlook the greatness that is WDADRu. It looked like a magical evening, and watching the DVD, the emotion bleeds out of my TV.

It would be interesting to see and all, but that seems like it would be a little overkill. You'd have guys switching positions and moving on and off stage constantly. Not to mention it would take forever to get them to practice together with all the different lineups.

Maybe have each past guy do an appearance on a song. I would love to see KM do Space-Dye.

Sorry for being blunt, but James really doesn't deliver to the extent that he used to.

As long as this is in New York, I'm happy with the idea.
