Middle instrumental jam.
F#
DAT SOLO
Kevin's keyboard solo
Myung's bass solo
LaBrie's final vocal moment
Epic fade-out

Algo Fonix

It's one of my favorite DT songs.  Myung tears it the fuck up.

Thank you for making this thread. My favorite song of all time, and that probably won't ever change. DAT F# AND DAT SOLO :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

This has been some of DT's songs that has grown slowest on me.
But now, after a loooooot of listens over the years, I'm really starting to like it!
Would've been cool if DT could make something new in that same style in the future, but they seem to be in a completely different musical state at the moment.

I know most people go straight to the F# part, and so am I. This is one of the most mind-blowing epic things I've ever heard. Ever seen Tenacious D, when he blows that guy's mind? Thats what happens every time I hear it. I usually listen to that part 3 or 4 times before I move on with the rest of the song. Musically, it's my favorite part ever.

I think the F# part is overrated and a little naff to be honest.  The F# in the live versions of Metropolis (Marquee) and LtL (OIALT) are superior.  Short and sweet.

Haha, I don't see what's so great about it eh.  Its just ascending whoa's.  The other ones I mentioned are integrated into the main melody, which I think makes them a lot more effective.

Jarlaxle

As good as it is, it is kind of pointless to the song. If he hit an F# while singing the chorus, it would be completely different.

Pretty much what I said.  I agree.

Jarlaxle

Still impressive though, but not the highlight of this gem of a song.

The F# and the Wait for Sleep reprise make this song awesome.

My favourite DT song. It's sheer perfection from start to finish. And the ending is so great, though (or even because) it doesn't try too hard to be epic.

?

LTL is a top 3 DT song for me! Everything about it is great! It features some of the best performances by each member.

What an uncontroversial thread  :lol

It's a good song, originally I didn't think it was one of the greats of Images and Words but now I definitely do. Still only 3rd best from the album for me though. But a top 20 song.

I really like the ending of it for some reason.

It took a while for this to grow on me, but now I consider it one of their best songs. Definitely John Myung's greatest lyrical contribution to DT. And an appropriate album closer too, despite the fade-out.

All together now:

Whaa-HAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

atmyne

the best DT song... period. any other opinion is objectively incorrect. For me though, I'd say Octavarium (song) would probably come second.

Zydar

I would love to have professional video footage of the KM-era DT doing this song. I was disappoint when they said on the Tokyo DVD commentaries that the encore from that show was LtL but it didn't get included. But the LSFNY version is great too.

hefdaddy42

This song is among the most universally loved in the DT catalogue (with good reason), so I'm not really sure why it needed an appreciation thread.  But whatever.
