It was good, but I don't really think the interview sheds any light on anything.

I guess we'll find out in the future what Mike plans to do.

Speaking of Classic Rock magazine, it seems that Derek Sherinian is of the opinion that DT will do one album with an interim drummer then MP will rejoin...  because it's 'Mike's band'....

Hmmm......  :hat

Yeah, that was posted a while back when all of this first came down (I'm not saying you should have known that. There's way too much information for anyone individually to keep track of everything that's been posted).  I'm really not sure how much weight to give that.  I mean, I understand that he is probably in a better position than any of us to judge since he did spend a few years actually in the band with these guys.  But on the other hand, he's been out for quite a while and (most likely) is not privy to anything that was actually said by any of the five people involved.

Now we'll be wondering MP's reaction when the new drummer is announced.

Trust me. Someone will ask him soon after its announced.

Problem is that he just might comment via twitter and cause some crazy controversy.  MP should keep is yap shut and let DT soak up the hype and press over the new guy.  If MP was smart he wouldnt comment at all.  He might be silly enough to write "What? You want me to comment on the new guy f_cking my wife, again!?"

Dont touch it with a 10 foot pole MP.

Didn't want to create another MP-related topic, but just wondering if you guys saw this interview that came out two days ago:

Well, I'm glad to see that Mike seems to be doing allright, all things considered.

Yeah, that's probably best. Maybe he doesn't intend to cause controversy, but if the fans want this to turn into a Waters situation (and I think some of them do), they'll interpret MP's comments in a certain light.

Yep.  No matter what he says it will miscontrued, twisted and taken out of context.  Mike should say "NO COMMENT, I WISH DT SUCCESS" ..........even if he still might be mad.

Even that could be construed as blatantly hiding negative feelings toward the new drummer.  If he says anything at all, it should be openly wishing the new drummer success.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and say something nice even if you don't feel like it. And this is one of those times. We know it's gotta hurt but flaming the old band isn't going to help anyone.

Progmetty

Best thing MP can do now for his own sake and respect among the fans is to completely stfu for a few month, I still respect that guy.
Do we have scans of the interview yet?

From the Prog magazine? If so, you need to re-read previous posts in this thread.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Tick

Interviews are always distorted and much of what is said is taken out of context or purposely distorted for sensationalism. Probably a good portion of any magazine interview is bogus in one form or another. Mike would seem to be a journalists dream, for the fact they have have to work all that hard to sensationalize anything. He's probably guilty of giving them exactly what they want. :tick2:

I have to admit, i really stopped caring by now about MP's antics. He had a choice, he made it, now shut up and move on.

rumborak

Amen. Regardless of the public or private reasons why this went down the way it did, I'm tired of Mike Portnoy whining. Just go on with life. Totally get why it is devastating, but Dream Theater is A LOT bigger than Mike Portnoy, and frankly, he should have known that.

Dude, he isn't whining. He made ONE post in the last month to announce the mag issue, and mentioned that it made him feel sad. The people who need to let it go are those who kick up a fuss every time Mike says anything.

So when does the Classic Rock/Prog magazine hit stateside?  Like a dope I already went to a couple of newsstands looking for it.  Read 3 pages of this thread but could not find this info.  Any help?

Rina

I didn't think he was whining. But anyways, I'm still curious to how he'll react/think when the new drummer is announced, like Emindead said.

I'm curious too.  But I hope, for his own sake, that he is either classy with just like some good wishes for the new guy, or else doesn't react publicly at all.

Algo Fonix

I honestly think Mike will be classy about saying anything about the new drummer.  Pretty much anything he says will be misconstrued as disrespectful or maybe even sarcastic by a few anyways.

When MP posts "congrats to DT for recruiting a great drummer, I hope it works out well for them" someone will respond "MP quit whining". Guaranteed.

rumborak

And somebody will post "Never Enough", guaranteed.

Jarlaxle

the best thing Mike can do when the new drummer is announced is either just shut up, or actually acknowledge the new guy with a comment somewhere along the lines of "congrats to ______, I wish you well in DT and I hope you make our fans proud." That would go a long way in helping regain his credibility.

I must say, Mike looks fitter than he's ever looked.  I think I saw a recent tweet where he said he was hittin up the gym.

Xanthul

He looks a lot fitter than before. Beer belly is gone.

BUT ITS PROBABLY BECAUSE HES BITTER.

It's just a mid-life crisis  ::)

Yeah I was gonna say... :lol

But seriously, I'm sure there's some connection between his leaving DT and a possible mid-life crisis.  He's around that age, after all.
