Every time I listen to Innocence Faded, when it gets to the bridge, instrumental part of the song, it sounds exactly like the Dregs! Johns guitar sound just like Steve Morse. Am I the only one who has noticed this?
I posted this on MP.com quite awhile back and not surprisingly the thread was completely ignored.
If you don't know the music of The Dregs then there is nothing for you to see hear.

Sixtease

I don't know the dregs. Maybe say a song title an position so that we can compare.

Its the style. You would have to know the music of the Dregs to understand.

Listen to this and see if it helps?

Adami

The instrumental section clearly sounds like rush. Red Barchetta I believe.

Well, think the fact DT covers The Dregs on the Black Clouds bonus disc adds some credence to my feeling that its very Dregs influenced.

Plus, Petrucci has stated many times that he loves/idolizes Steve Morse.

Don't forget that JR worked with the Dregs before joining DT.

I hear a slight influence, but not really.  When I think of the Dregs, I think of a spacious, electronic musical quality.  I don't hear that too much in IF.

It also sounds like the way Kansas did on the two albums they had Steve Morse.

Adami

It sounds almost identical to Red Barchetta, how can no one else see this? (or hear this)

Man, now that you mention it, I would agree there is some definite dregs influence.  Such an amazing band.  Morse, Morgenstein, West.....amazing!!

John I believe always cites Morse as an influence, what a great guitar player.

I don't hear it, Adami, sorry. I am a life long Rush fan and I see no similarities between DT and Rush besides great musicianship.

DarkEternalNight

Strange Deja Vu groovy riff = heavy Rush influence

Yup, that one I agree with. Good reference.
There are more I'm sure now that I think about it.
Their is the tune on FII that sounds like the beginning of Xanadu.

Click that, go right to 2:33 or so. And if that has NO similarity to the instrumental ending of IF, I will kill myself and take Jackie along with me.

Red Bacharacaraca... Came on the radio today and I heard something very familiar. You know when the instrumental starts in IF, the DUN.... DUN DUN part, the same thing is in the Rush song. Is this what you're talking about Adami?

nah.

I'm going to rip off your head, stick it on a pole, cover each side with graham crackers, roast it and feed it to small children in return for their lunch money. I will then take that money and invest it in the stock market, assuming I make a hefty profit, I will take that accumilated wealth and buy your family. I will then eat each and every one of them, and then take the droppings I produce from them, and mold them into crap statues of your family.

Then you all can spend eternity together in hell, because you're not muslim.

Trial of Tears? That's the first thing I thought when I first heard that song.

tick, yes, you're right.  I completely agree with you.  It does sound very Steve Morse-esque and Dregs-ish.
