Mind you, Moore returning would NOT mean Rudess leaving.

I'm of course not talking about a realistic scenario, but let's say that Kevin Moore got the itch to play with Dream Theater again and wanted to join the band full-time.

Who would you rather have become a full-time member again, Kevin or Mike?

Seventh Son

How so? You mean Kevin deciding to do a reunion show or something?

Kevin Moore, even if he didn't play keys. Just having him write songs for DT would be awesome.

Kevin Moore, no doubt. The band's songwriting skills immediately take a huge jump upward with him.

That's kind of a lopsided band.

The replacement drummer would be in there too if Moore came back.

MIKE FREAKING PORTNOY.
People should just get over KM already. He is sooooo old news. I'm not convinced he would make DT that much better either...

Then Moore, I guess. No one would listen to him though.

Kevin could just lay down some phat beats using only samples from Transformers 2.  That'd make DT the best band in the history or future of the earth.  Then they'd never need a drummer again.

Have you ever listened to Images and Words or Awake?

Not the best thread given the current circumstances.

Yes. Images and Words is my favorite album as a matter of fact. Awake is good but I don't put it as high as some people.

dethklok09

well why dont we just put kevin moore on drums and forget the replacement.

Kevin Moore is overated.   There is no way he could write Octavarium or The count of Tuscany.  Dt did their best album when Jordan joined the band.   Listen to Kevin's solo albums  and it is clear he is a one trick pony.  I love space dye vest BTW.

I'm not a huge fan of KM, so I will have to say MP.

Yeah, he could never write THAT bad lyrics!  :lol

DT made my 2 favorite albums with Kevin, his OSI stuff is quite good and his lyrics are much better than Mike's, so maybe I'd prefer to see him coming back.

I seriously want Derek back. I have wanted him back since SFAM. I love Jordan but to this day I think MP made a HUGE mistake in getting rid of him. Derek WAS the perfect fit for the band.

It was probably unrealistic for Kevin to be with DT after Awake, but you're right Derek was and would have been perfect.

Actually, a thread perfect for the given circumstances.

Mother Mary quite contrary
Kiss the boys and make them wary
Things are getting just a little bit scary

AwakeFromOctavarium

Kevin Moore comes to my mind, but I want to see first how DT will sound without MP. If there is a significant difference, then I'll have to think about it.

Never been much of a doubting Thomas
but nothing breaks like a broken promise
You tell me 'bout your two more coming
but once is just enough for me

Octavarium is great, but still a bit overrated. TCOT has got to be one of DT's most overrated epics ever. Its alright, but nowhere near their best. I don't even think its the best song on Black Clouds.

Scenes is in their top 5, but not by much. Its a great album, but doesn't touch Images and Words/Awake.

Global Laziness

Kevin Moore, if only because it would create such a drastic shakeup to Dream Theater's sound. I think it'd be cool in a weird, fantasy world kind of way.

perfey

Kevin Moore, because then we could have endless keyboardtrading solos between them!

How the hell is KevMo winning?

The reason that he left in the first place, over fifteen years ago, is because he was a bad fit for the band. He doesn't like Dream Theater! He wouldn't collaborate well with them. He'd be atrocious. Fucking atrocious. It would be total shite. If he felt that he could collaborate with them in a meaningful way, he'd still be in the band now. But he can't. He's authentically incapable of playing in Dream Theater. That's the entire point of everything that's happened since.

Mike left simply 'cause he didn't like the pace. He could be brought back successfully (although I'd rather they just valiantly marched on), whereas I can't see how bringing Kevin Moore back could be considered anything other than a mistake. There's no way in hell it would work.

If that was the case, then how did they come up with Images and Words and Awake? He just got tired of the style DT was heading towards.

He barely contributed a thing to Awake. Kevin Moore rejoining Dream Theater would necessitate that Kevin Moore stops being Kevin Moore.
