one of my favorite songs by them. one of James LaBries best vocal preformances easy.

whats the meaning to it though i remember john myung talking about something about it being about some sorta spiritual relationship between a man and a women or somthing like that but im like "what?" i dont really see it.

anyone wanna evaluate

Algo Fonix

I've wondered, but then I realize I would have to understand how JMX thinks.  I don't think anyone else can comprehend what goes on inside that man's head.  And then live to tell the tale.

Aniland

Absolutely one of their most gorgeous compositions; I can't imagine a world without it.

fsh3702

a little repetitive, but beautiful.

"turn a drop of water
Into an ocean" -------awesome.

Zydar

Great great song. One of the highlights on Awake for me.

He was asked on the commentary to FYIALT what the meaning of the lyrics are, and he said it was "too involved" to explain.

tri.ad

My fourth favourite DT song. It's a masterpiece.

ZKX-2099

The only Dream Theater song I can do without.

AwakeFromOctavarium

Easily the best clean DT song. Best ballad is taken by SDV, so yeah.

ZKX-2099

Clean song? What does that even mean?

Zydar

Lowdz

One of my favourites. I took a while to get into Awake after I&W but LSOAD was an instant hit with me. Even my other half likes it. I still skip IF and CIAW when I play awake, though I think I'm in a minority there.

Mostly consisting of clean guitars, and slow tempo. Well I just call them clean songs. Songs like Take Away My Pain, Hollow Years, The Silent Man fall into that category.

?

LSOAD is my 2nd least favorite on Awake and it's still great! I'd rate it 8½/10. Awake is 100 % greatness!

Honestly? If this song had never been made the whole world would collapse in on itself?

hefdaddy42

This song is brilliant, both in composition and lyrics.  Easily a Top 10 song for me.

I'm not sure about the exact meaning of the song, but the motif of water is striking.

KevShmev

Awesome song.  A borderline top 10 DT song for me.  It has a feel and aura unlike any other DT song.  Listening to it now! :hat

pogoowner

It's freaking fantastic. One of DT's few truly successful attempts at a ballad.

Pretty much what Myung already said. Its basically the relationship with a man and a woman. Myung uses a lot of metaphors so a lot of the lyrics are more symbolic than anything. But that's the gist of the song.

Occasional_Madman

It's entrancing. JMX's use of harmonics is dazzling. There's something about the songs he writes. They're all great. Like, seriously, most of them contend for the best song on their respective albums.
