I read the link on Facebook an hour or two ago.  Honestly, I didn't read nearly as much into it as you guys did.  The only thing I'm going on right now is his official press release, which seemed amicable.

Honestly, who cares if Mike feels like the band can't be the same without him. He played a major role in everything. He can't be easily replaced. And, honestly, it DOES sound like he never imagined the band would tell him they can go on without him. What's so hard to accept about that?

Since he left, I believe he should let the other four guys regroup and continue to write music under the Dream Theater name. It's the least he can do for the fans he has stunned.

There is no way the band name would change.  There is a contract for Roadrunner, not to mention it's just Portnoy leaving the band.  Not the band breaking up.  So Dream Theater will still be Dream Theater, Portnoy just won't be behind the kit.  That's all.

I think it's a metaphor for A7X. A younger girl compared to his "wife" Dream Theater. It wasn't a good analogy, but I got what he meant.

I certainly took the posting of the blog as a provocative remark. Along with the quote in the interview about joking that he didn't want the band to carry on if he died, it fits together that he belives there is no DT without him and he said he was stunned that the band stood their ground.

I can understand him wanting time off, but he had the chance to have that this year, as agreed, and chose to fill it with more work than ever. The others can't be blamed for wanting to carry on with their day jobs and I'm kinda glad there will be a DT album in 2011, even if it will be without MP. A short while ago that would have been unthinkable to me too, but there is no-one to blame here but MP. His bluff was well and truly called and I'm sure he's angry as hell.

I was worried how well he would react to touring with a "party animal" band (though for all I know the death of the Rev may have changed them...), and what it might do to his recovery. There is no evidence I know of to suggest anything is wrong in this regard but I still worry, especially as MP seems to be enjoying life on the road with a young and crazy Metal band.

It's just typical MP saying what's on his mind and not thinking too much about how it will be interpreted.  I get exactly what he's saying, and the 9/11 reference doesn't bother me.
