Yes, I'm actually more excited for new DT

Well, yes...that is true, the feeling of something new is gonna be there. But what if we don't like the result?  PLEASE NO. PLEASE.

Why not if I know it's going to sound different.

I'm really hoping that this motivates the guys to all be highly involved in the creative side of the new album.

7StringedBeast

I'm ready to be excited about this.  A whole new chapter.  I for one believe we are more likely to get IW Awake and Scenes quality material now.

This. And it depends also of who'll be beating those drummsy boom in the future.

That would be awesome. If that turns out to be the case, I would definitely listen to them. If, not, I would still definitely listen to them.  :metal

LadyEars

Will listen but it will be mostly out of curiousity, not excitement or enthusiasm.

pogoowner

I'm MORE likely to listen to their new output now.

yorost

Why would I just give up a band I love before even giving a new album a chance?

Curiosity will definitely be overriding reason to listen for me, and probably everyone - I mean we don't know, anything could happen. However I am hopeful they can do something great so I am excited as well.

But yes, I hope we will all listen. Personally I think it would be rather sad if anyone didn't and disrespectful to the members of a band that are clearly quite important to most of us.

I think many of us are still too raw from this news to contemplate any of this. You are certainly right, this band is quite important to most of us here.  But I'm logging off now because being here, on the forum today, is just not bringing any comfort.

ZBomber

Yes, and I am actually really excited to hear what the next album will sound like. Portnoy will be missed in the live shows, but I'm authentically excited for the new studio album... even more so now that MP left.

Plasmastrike

Fuck yes. A handful of the best musicians in the world are still together.

nightmare_cinema

Definitely, I'm still reeling from the news and wish that this wasn't the case an awful lot, but it's still gonna be 4/5 of what it was before Mike and they could (probably will) come up with something utterly incredible.

HarlequinForest

I'm more excited than before to listen to new Dream Theater; I'm interested in seeing how this change affects their output.

It still doesn't feel quite right reading that "Portnoy will be missed in the live shows" and ""even more so now that MP left"

This is gonna take a while!

I will listen to DT as long as the current members are still in the band. We'll see how this new album plays out, first.

Tick

I will absolutely still listen to Dream Theater. While they lost my favorite member I will still follow the band.
I have little doubt they will put out a good album with a new drummer. I believe the problem will lie with there live performances. Its rare that the drummer is the charisma is the band, but that is the case with Mike. Someone will have to step it up on stage live.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Hell yeah, good music will always be good music  :D

Arcaeus

I've not really been interested in Dream Theater or progressive metal lately, but with a new mind in the band and a presumably different creative process, I'm interested to see how things will proceed, so of course I'll give it a listen.

setrataeso

This is what I was hoping to see come out of this.
I wonder who was the 1 person who said "no".

LeeHarveyKennedy

I will listen to this new album more than I've listened to the past three combined. Doesn't matter if I love it, hate it or can't be arsed to choose a side. I will say this right now and you can all quote me on it down the line next year: This album will have more to digest than anything the previous three have done (With the possible exception of the song Octavarium).

Dr. DTVT

I will still listen.  I don't think the their sound will suffer on albums or even live, its all the behind the things stuff MP did that make me worry it won't be the same DT I've come to love the past 12 years.

As long as JP is there, I'm fine.

I will look forward to "The Spirit Carries On" Tour and I will hopefully look forward to meeting them for the first time, sadly, without Mike.
and I'm looking forward to this as well

without doubt, Mike will surely miss DT
hopefully Mike will show up, maybe as a cameo, every once in a while during the future DT tours

Zorander

I can't fathom how someone would NOT want to listen to what ever the rest of the guys put out! Really.. I'm well excited for a new album actually. Because.. 1) I always am. 2) This will in some ways be new.. and the rest of the guys are still DT, the same people, I love them and I really, really want to listen to whatever music they create!!  :)

Me neither. And I'm sure that two are gonna listen to the new DT too.

TheVoxyn

Yes, I'm certainly going to listen now. As some people already said, I think it's actually more exciting then another 'normal' DT album.

hefdaddy42

With JP, JR, and JLB - yes of course I will still listen.

Im sorry did I miss an official announcement saying he was leaving the band...or is this all speculation based on the A7X tour..and saying he'd like to do an album with them or something?
