Anyone notice the part when he said that Petrucci and Jordan had e-mailed him with very nice words?  Nothing from Myung and LaBrie, huh?

Portrucci

Yeah I never thought there was a great relationship between Myung or LaBrie and Portnoy. LaBrie had that confrontation around SDOIT where he was nearly booted, and with Mike's growing control over the vocal arrangements I can't imagine James being that tight with him. Myung as well always struck me as being a great friend of John and just sort of accepting Mike. The personalities just being too different to be close friends.

SnakeEyes

You know, when I read about that whole almost firing LaBrie situation, the first thing I thought was, "PORTNOY," especially after reading his semi-critical remarks, concerning LaBrie's style of singing and how, if DT were just getting started now, he'd choose a different singer.  If I had to guess, I'd say that whole thing most likely came from Portnoy, but who knows....

In fairness it's only been 2 days. I'm sure at some point he will speak with the others.

It was an interesting interview anyway. Mike was very respectful about the rest of the band and made it clear that it was simply a disagreement over how to proceed and that neither side was to blame more than the other.

Yeah, it was respectful.  However, I personally sense that Portnoy's tone is one of, "don't blame me - THEY wanted to keep going, THEY wouldn't take a break, THEY .... they they" rather than, " I wanted to go play in Avenged Sevenfold, I wanted to play in a bunch of other side projects, etc."

I agree 100%. Mike took no personal responsibility in this interview imo. It was all about what the others wanted to do, and not what HE was doing right now and earlier this year.

I still feel this is a mid-life crisis. Mike got a taste of what a successful band gets (groupies, big crowds, big money, more fun) and he likes it. While DT are successful they will never be at the level of these younger bands like A7X, etc. Mike even commented that it was great to finally get a #1 on Billboard when the A7X album came out 'even though it wasn't with DT'.

Read inbetween the lines of interviews, statements, etc. Those of you will any psychological training, even a BA, can clearly see what is going on here. I do believe he wanted a 'break' from DT, which is understandable, but it seems he is using this more as an excuse to stay with A7X next year and pursue his own agenda.

And honestly - there is nothing wrong with his choice. Just don't blame everyone but yourself.

I disagree entirely that he was putting the blame on the others. If someone in an interview asks you about YOUR side of the story, do you start speculating about what the others are thinking? No, you answer about your thoughts and what happened from your point of view.

No one said he had to speculate about what the other guys were thinking.  But, I think it's undeniable that Portnoy basically tried making the other guys out to be the villians - or, ascribing fault to them - by saying, "Well, I was 'put' in this situation."  When someone says that they're 'put' in a situation, it means they're trying to say it was from someone else's actions and it's generally a negative connotation.  I'm not saying he did it angrily or disrespectful, even, because he didn't.  But, he still did it and I don't agree with it.
