So people would do well to attack idiots generally rather than single out A7X fans.

Well said.

It's obviously the minority of people saying things like that.

It should be noted that this is all from a festival show as well. Meaning people that aren't even their fans are the ones saying this.

im guessing most of the people that make those kind of comments dont know very much about drumming or drumming technique anyway.

As cool as a band as Avenged Sevenfold are becoming, they still have a bunch of worthless scene-core fans who grew up by acting like jackasses together in the mall through highschool.

You know, this about sums it up.  I hate to over generalize when it comes to things like this, but in this case, it's .... kinda true.  It would be silly to say "all" of their fans are like that, but there are a lot of those "scene-core" people you referred to.  That really stinks for Portnoy.  He's a hard working S.O.B. and he doesn't deserve that (no one does, but ESPECIALLY Portnoy).

You can relax. Something happened and I reported it. The whole crowd didn't turn on Mike. It was a few vocal idiots. Its just too bad for a few bad apples. I'm sure the majority of the crowd was very thankful Mike was there. I don't want this to be a mandate against A7X fans. That would be unfair. I just know he got a hard time from a few fans, and hit with something.

Yeah, but it's still kind of infuriating. Mike has stated billions of times that he's not trying to replace him, and that the band WANTS to go on. Hell, I'm 100% positive that The Rev would've wanted them to go on. I can't think of many instances where a band member would say "When I die, you STOP MAKING MUSIC". If anyone here was in a big, popular band (or even a fairly well known one) would you want all of the members to just give up after you passed? I'd want them to go on and keep making music, and that's what A7X is doing.

Well, we know where they're not gonna play.

That's weird, all the A7X fans that I know have been praising his drumming. It's probably just a few closed minded douchebags.

I agree with you. That's why I started the thread. I just want zkk to chill out a bit. He made his first post in this thread by basically calling me a liar, and why should anyone believe what I said.

Those are... annoyingly positive. As in I don't see a hint of troll from what I've seen. Well, good to see.

Orbert

Yeah, the part where one of the guys flings Mike's cymbals into the crowd "like frisbees" was pretty cool.  Nothing like decapitating one of your fans to liven things up.  Okay, okay.

I didn't see anything that addressed the bits of abuse Mike took at that show, but yeah, the comments were overwhelmingly positive, which was expected.  Obviously it's just a few dickheads who have a problem with Mike, but I don't see how that renders this thread unnecessary.  I would say that a contrary report is a good thing.  It doesn't hurt to have some perspective and know that not everyone is 100% in agreement on everything the band does.

I believe there's a bridge somewhere that's missing its troll.

Anyway, yeah, this is pretty crappy for a fan of any band to do.  MP stepped up in a major way for these guys.  He's got a lot of shit going on already AND took this on.  Props to him for being a stand-up guy.  he doesn't deserve any kind of flak from A7X fans.

Nothing wrong with being rebellious, but disrespectful?  Ain't nothin' cute about that.

thats silly.  Considering that portnoy is a HUGE upgrade from their last drummer

Maybe it's just the tabloids taking their toll on me, but tbh my instincts were in line with ZKX's. It does sound a lot like the kind of rumour that often gets fabricated. Not necessarily by tick, but it's unverifiable, anecdotal, and paints a slightly skewiff picture.

Not that I've got any idea why anybody would make it up, but it does sound a lot like the kind of synthesised outrages that you tend to get in the papers apropos of nothing bar an easy demographic to vilify.

Sir GuitarCozmo

Questioning the veracity of something is acceptable, though there is no real reason to doubt tick about it.  Likening it to watching MSNBC is outright trollish behavior, plain and simple.  P/R smart remarks should be kept in P/R where they belong.

Perpetual Change

While I'm not accusing tick of exaggerating or anything, isn't it true that Mike is pretty much always taking some abuse, regardless of what he's doing?

Dude, your continuous berating of me is obnoxious. You need to chill out. I know you obviously must pleasure yourself to your A7X posters and that's your business but what I said is 100% true. "The truth is the truth, all you can do is live with it."
Get something clear my friend. A FEW fans booed Mike at that particular show. FACT. Someone hit Mike in the face with an object and he shook his stick at the fan. FACT.
I don't care if you deem this thread unnecessary, it does not make it false. My friend told me the crowd by and large accepted Mike and appreciated him, but a FEW idiots were vocal.
Can you stop now...please.

This thread is in no way unnecessary. He is simply saying how his friend saw that some fans were abusing Mike. He didn't say "All A7X fans suck and they all hate Mike." If you don't like this thread, stop complaining and just leave the thread alone.

Why?  It is not like there is a chance in hell he would quit DT to stay with Avenged Sevenfold full time.  Let those fans enjoy their pipe dream.

bosk1

I wouldn't rule it out.  I mean, yeah, he has said on record countless times that DT is his "baby" and his first priority.  But you never know.  I would not be remotely shocked if he decided down the road that he actually prefers playing the huge venues and getting the bigger paycheck that being a full member of a popular band would bring him.  I don't think it's likely, but I wouldn't be shocked either.

Nah, MP does not seem like that kind of guy at all. But still, you never know I guess.

bosk1

Yeah, I mean, I'm not predicting anything.  But I wouldn't say it's outside the realm of reasonable possibilities either.

The Letter M

If Mike decided to devote more time to ANYTHING other than Dream Theater, I'd hope it'd be Transatlantic. Neal would probably be okay with it, considering how successful The Whirlwind ended up being, and Roine would probably love to do it again as well. The only question mark would be Pete because he seems to be pretty busy with Marillion and I doubt he would leave them for TA, but then again, I'm sure there is enough time between their short tours and recording that Pete could record and tour with Transatlantic on a regular basis.

But I do believe MP would never give up DT for anything... he'll just always have other things to do because he's always got to be busy.

-Marc.
