I didn't see another thread or post about this:

https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/joey_jordison_best_drummer_in_25_years.html

Slipknot and Rob Zombie drummer Joey Jordison has been voted the best drummer of the past 25 years in a poll which received over 100,000 votes. Drumming magazine Rhythm ran the popularity contest, which also features Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, Dave Grohl, Travis Barker and Nicko McBrain in the top ten. Rhythm says of Jordison: "Lightning fast yet supremely technical, Joey has proved himself equally adept outside Slipknot, having worked with Korn, Zombie, Murderdolls and more, as well as stepping in to save the day when depping for Metallica's Lars Ulrich at Download 2004.

"He was the runaway winner, taking an amazing 37% of the votes."

Jordison is currently touring with Rob Zombie after recording four tracks with the band.

Rhythm's Top 20:

01. Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls, Rob Zombie)
02. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold)
03. Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)
04. Neil Peart (Rush)
05. Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Them Crooked Vultures)
06. Travis Barker (Blink 182)
07. Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden)
08. Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Sting, Jeff Beck)
09. Phil Collins (Genesis)
10. Chad Smith (Chili Peps, Chickenfoot)
11. Brann Dailor (Mastodon)
12. Steve Gadd (Eric Clapton, Paul Simon)
13. Thomas Lang (solo)
14. Stewart Copeland (Police)
15. Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa, solo)
16. Josh Freese (NIN, Devo)
17. Cozy Powell (Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake)
18. Jeff Porcaro (Toto)
19. Stephen Morris (New Order)
20. Steve White (Paul Weller)

I don't listen to Slipknot (or his other bands) so I wouldn't know if he deserves it or not, but I thought MP, Gavin or Peart would have won it.

Mladen

Jordison is certainly one of my favorite drummers. He's in my top 5, although I like Mike, Neil and Nicko slightly better. Well deserved first place, though.  ;D

All I can say is HUH? It has alot to do with slipnot being mainstream i would think .

TL

Congrats to Mike, but...
Joey Jordison the best drummer of the past 25 years? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever fucking heard.

Yeah, reason# 132,658 that these types of polls are pretty useless.

Agreed.
Anyone other than Neil at #1 is wrong.  Mike at #2 I can totally see, though, he's awesome.  Just not as awesome as the professor.

Zydar

09. Phil Collins (Genesis) - hmm what exactly has Phil done drum wise in the last 25 years to place him this high?

Fluffy Lothario

There could have been far worse picks than Joey at the top. I remember seeing a similar list about ten years ago with Lars in at #1. At least Joey's a decent drummer. I wouldn't be surprised if he made my own top ten.

zxlkho

Yeah Joey definitely isn't bad. He just shouldn't be anywhere near the top 4 or 5

imo:
Neil Peart
Danny Carey
Mike Portnoy
Gavin Harrison

Super Dude

The fact that a member of Slipknot came in first, let alone placed, invalidates this ranking.
:superdude:

KevShmev

The fact that Carter Beauford wasn't even in the poll made the whole thing invalid.

ehra

Music is subjective up until the moment someone says something I disagree with.

This poll is irrelevant after a stupid statement such as that. He is by far one of the worst drummers I've ever had the displeasure to witness live. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. And if 100,000 people are that fucking stupid, then I am not really concerned about the other results.

THIS LIST MADE ME GO:

This.

But these kinds of polls are always kind of dumb.

AwakeFromOctavarium

If they are talking about blazing fast drumming, there's only one person to talk about.

Tomas Haake.

rumborak

Magazines need to get into the habit of rejecting their own polls when they notice that they're complete bogus.

Ben_Jamin

I can see that. It's not Jus because of Slipknot, he toured with Rob Zombie, Korn, and drummed for lars. I think it's those reasons Why he won. Personally I don't care about these so why bother whining

He had his name be Phil Collins.

nakedman

Ugh.... Mike is a good drummer, but there are so many much more talented and multifaceted drummers that should of been higher. Virgil, Dave Dicenso, Benny Greb, all drummers pioneering the future of drumming and technique. I think Mike is an awesome guy, but IMO he doesn't hold a candle to some of the other drummers out there, who actually strive to be the best drummer they can be! ANNNND Joey Jordison? Commme on!

I COMPLETELY agree!

LCArenas

Joey Jordison higher than Mike Portnoy and Neil Peart and Travis Barker above Vinnie Colaiuta and Nicko prevent me from taking this list seriously.

The Awesome

Any list without Thomas Lang at or very close to the top was created by people without a working knowledge of drumming.

Global Laziness

I agree with the majority of this list, but seriously? Jordison at #1? That's just wrong.

This.

But these kinds of polls are always kind of dumb.

And yet Mike Portnoy wanted to win it so much that he tweeted about it (with the link, so fans could go vote for him) and pinned a thread about it at the top of his own forum (or had one pinned, in case he didn't do the actual pinning). :p

orcus116

Oh, so it was really a "Who can rally the most fanboys?" poll then. Not that MP doesn't deserve some praise but the results and omissions are quite bizarre.

I noticed that, too. Seems kind of odd that he wouldn't acknowledge coming second on his Twitter feed or anything once the results came out.
