This live album doesn't get talked about much but I think it's awesome!  Show your appreciation!   :D

Easily my favorite live album. LSFNY gets praised for the setlist but the band sounds like they're having so much damn fun on OIALT.

"Cover My Eyes" and "Speak to Me"
:hefdaddy

Isn't that just on the DVD?
Shit you're right, ira from the fan club or somenthing.

ShadowWalker

I probably listen to this live disc more than any other of DT's official live releases.

bosk1

Not a very good performance.  I have never listened to this album much.

Adami

I can't remember how good the perfomances were, but the mix was terrible in my opinion. Bad enough anyway that I never listen to it.

MykeHavoc

Was the version of TTT on here the reason they ommited the middle verse from future live performances? As everyone is well aware, James really much shits the bed during it :P
I don't actually own the album, but I've heard clips. I do own the DVD companion piece, though,
and enjoy the footage on there a lot.

sneakyblueberry

Nah everyone who says this is crap is just wrong, tbh.  This album is the one that got me into DT.  Its not their best live release but it still kicks anus.

LKap13

Haven't listened to it in a while. I do remember that Lines in the Sand had some cool live-variations.

ScioPath

One of my favorite live albums of DT.
I love all the solos too.

bosk1

Wow, interesting thread.  I honestly wasn't previously aware of anyone who could say anything positive about this album beyond, "well, it was a good set list and there are a few pretty cool moments, but...uh, yeah, that's all I got," let alone people who actually love it.

Adami

Oh yea, I forgot about Petruccis solo. Love it. Wish his modern solos were a bit more like that and not so predictable.

King Postwhore

To me, the cd felt uninspired.  The DVD I loved for all the behind the scenes stuff and Derek Sherinian. The guy has charisma
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

BRGM

The JP solo spot is pretty boring to me, the Tourbulence solo spot is heck of alot better!

and the rest of OIALT isn't really my cup of tea

Sorry

:neverusethis:

No seriously, sorry, I will stop

Adami

Thank you. Now, are there any recordings of that tourbulence solo or whatever?

BRGM

It's on the Live in Bucharest Bootleg

Zook

I really only bought this live CD to complete my collection. James sounds really bad a lot of the time.

Adami

Oh, really? I'll go grab it and check it out.

BRGM

It's more of a mellow solo, like on "An evening with Jordan and petrucci" :)

Adami

Yea, listening to it now. It's just so...predictable. It's EXTREMELY beautiful and amazing, but the OIALT one is just more fresh and inspired I thought.

I also enjoy LaBrie's F# on the LTL medley.  So.

BRGM

Oh he does that there? :O have to check it out

@Adami, Okay :)

hefdaddy42

I'm probably the only one who really digs the Freebird outro of Take The Time, right?

Jeez, what a weird choice that was.  Especially in France!
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

sneakyblueberry

Nah i like it!  I had never heard Freebird when I first heard the TTT outro so I had no idea how cheese it was :P

I was fine with it. It was such a fresh choice. I liked when DT weren't so predictable.

Oh, I was fine with it.  I just meant...Skynyrd was wasted on France.

My favorite part of the CD.

bosk1

Yeah, that part of the show was pretty cool.

LaBrie did not hit an F# on that album.
