Man, listening through the whole Majesty Demos is a tough cookie. I don't know what it is, but Chris has this resonance in his voice that is really irritating after a while.
I hear Chris still does music; does he still sing like that?

ClairvoyantCat

One of those 80s screechers with 100% ridiculous (ridiculous in a bad way) castrato notes and absolutely 0% vocal tone or charisma.

As I remember he formed a Death Metal band that have an album out soon if not already

ZKX-2099

I never heard an actual reason why he left Dream Theater... was he also... Dominici'd?

Slain

I laughed pretty hard when reading the title of this thread. I'm not a huge fan either..

tri.ad

Yeah, he really tended do overdo things when it comes to vocal lines and singing style when he was in DT.

According to the Lifting Shadows book, Chris did not have the family support to be in a band like the other members of Dream Theater did.  So he was forced to work day jobs and do other things, while the band was able to focus more on their craft.  That ultimately led to other problems and caused a rift and was the reason why he and the band split.  I can't remember whether he decided to leave or they asked him too.

I admire Chris.  He still makes music and does his thing regardless of the venue.  It's probably not easy to watch your old band go on to such large success, while you are still in your hometown area playing small gigs.  He's trooper and should be respected for that.

For him, it's all about his love for the music.  Keep it up, Chris!  :metal

Was he the guy who got canned by DT mid-concert? Or who was that?

I too had intended to check out the Majesty demos someday, but now I don't think so.  I have enough trouble getting through the first album, as I don't really care for Dominici's voice, so I'm sure the Majesty demos with an even-worse singer would be downright painful.

Dr. SeaWolf

While Dominici was not the best fit for the band vocally, he was still quite talented.  I don't know how fair it is to compare him to Collins.

Don't let that distract you from the Majesty Demos though. Less than a quarter of the tunes on there are sung by Collins. There is a lot of early-DT hilarity that a DT fan should really not miss out on.

Ben_Jamin

His vocals fit real well on Two Far.

Wait... so who sings the rest?

Wait... so who sings the rest?

A lot of it is just instrumental stuff with the band fooling around.

I think it's plenty fair.

Yeah, I didn't quite get that remark either.  Here's a singer who they worked with for a while but it didn't work out, here's another singer who they actually cut their first album with but it didn't work out.  Let's compare.

"No, it's not fair to compare them!"

Uh, what?

hefdaddy42

Here's the comparison: they both suck.
