Had my iTunes open here at work and was listening to I&W.  About halfway through, I just wanted a little change of pace and got the urge to listen to some Systematic Chaos.  What ensued was an absolutely amazing song transition.

Surrounded -> ITPOE1.

Yeah, I know:  big deal; I played two completely unrelated songs back to back.  But, man, the flow of the end of Surrounded into the beginning of ITPOE1 was one of the coolest things I've heard in a while.

But just so this thread isn't so limited and doesn't die as quick a death, ITT discuss your cool DT song transitions that do not occur on the albums.  :D

Plasmastrike

I'm currently listened to all of Close To The Edge, but as soon as it's over I'll be trying this.

The Letter M

One's I've always enjoyed are:
Blind Faith -> Home
Home -> Sacrificed Sons
Sacrificed Sons -> In The Name Of God
In The Name Of God -> Octavarium

Sounds interesting.  I have most of these here, but not SFAM.  I'll load that one tomorrow at try that whole sequence.

Oh, and...
5 songs in your list, ending with 8VM.  :omg:  Nugget!!!

Totally intentional.

The ending of "Blind Faith" is in the same key as the opening of "Home". Likewise, the closing chord of "Home" is the same that ends "Never Enough", which, if you are good with audio editing software, you can mix the end of "Never Enough" transitioning into "Sacrificed Sons" into the ending of "Home".

"In The Name Of God" just sounds awesome after the closing of "Sacrificed Sons" and of course, the last note of "In The Name Of God" is the same as the opening note "Octavarium", just an octave apart.

Eve -> Surrounded

Wait for Sleep > Surrounded
Pull Me Under > Glass Prison
Another Day > The Count of Tuscany

I made a setlist with Bosk's and M's suggestions and I was listening to them and I thought "wow this transition is really smooth, they were right..." turns out it wasn't one of the suggested transitions, it was the one from ITPOE pt1 (last song in Bosk's list) to Blind Faith (first song in M's list). Try it, it's awesome.

If you want your mind blown more, try putting ITPOE pt2 after Octavarium and bookend it all!

The Glass Prison > The Root Of All Evil > This Dying Soul > Repentance > The Shattered Fortress  :metal
Yeah, it's my 12 step suite playlist but I couldn't resist.   ;)

I'll have to put my entire DT discography playlist on shuffle and see what happens.  :biggrin:

Yeah I'm always fussing with play lists trying to get good transitions. The best ones happen more when I mix bands.

Overture 1928 followed by Avenged Sevenfold's Blinded In Chains is one that comes to mind.

Dublagent66

I don't know if this is amazing or not, but it sounded pretty cool.

Disappear > Sacrificed Sons

I like this thread, simply because on the board index it comes up with "I accidentally disco".

:neverusethis:

Orbert

Bombardana

Wither(instrumental) -> A Change of Seasons

(works either way round)

Ben_Jamin

Blind Faith -> The Dance of Eternity

From the relative calming-down of the end of BF, and the final D fading out, into the sudden stab of D that starts DoE

Misunderstood --> These Walls

You can crossfade the two to make the guitar noise from Misunderstood lead in to These Walls.

The Letter M

Ya know, guys... if we keep this up, we may eventually  be able to segue/cross-fade the band's entire discography!

That's an interesting one! I've never tried that but it sounds like it would be pretty awesome!

The Dance Of Eternity --> Constant Motion

I made a random playlist and that transition made me cream.

Plasmastrike

I'm the "I only like to listen to songs in the album's entirety/flow" kinda guy, but some of these transitions are totally awesome!

Cheers everyone. Keep them coming

Beyond this Life -> Misunderstood
Just do it. Everybody. It's the best, I tell you.

Last note in BTL is D major and first note in Misunderstood is D major too so these songs sound great in a row

IIRC, they've played these two songs together live, and segued by making the opening chord of "Misunderstood" the ending of "Beyond This Life", as it would normally be the opening chord of "Through Her Eyes"...and you're right, it's the same key and pretty much the same chord!
