Another new song, to new CoD footage for some reason

Probably because the majority of their fan-base are douchebags who play lots of Modern Warfare 2.

Plasmastrike

Another terribly generic and boring song.

Every new Maiden and A7X song I've heard have been so mediocre.

Arcaeus

I just heard Fiction (the song The Rev wrote, originally titled Death, three days before he died).

WTF, it sounds so much like a suicide song.

Adami

Wait, the dead dude wrote a song called death and they renamed it fiction? How odd.

What the hell kind of nickname is that?

Oh well, just sounded odd

God Hates Us is a monster of a track, fans of Waking The Fallen need to listen to it immediately.

People that are open minded about the band should listen to Save Me, it's very Dream Theater-influenced.

Arcaeus

Album is seriously great guys, if you're a fan of the band you will be pleased. If you're not, this album's not going to change anything, Portnoy or no (do give Save Me a listen though).

It's miles better than their self-titled, and while maybe not as consistent as City of Evil, the highs on this album surpass it.

Gadough

Hmm. Of the three songs I've heard, Nightmare clicked with me immediately, I love it. On the other hand, Welcome To The Family and Buried Alive are...just not very good. I'll have to give the whole album a listen.

Adami

When they do they start touring? I wonder what kit portnoy will be using for the tour. If he will use his usually monster kit or something smaller. Hm.

Remo posted a picture of Portnoy's new bass drum head which is the A7X skull. I'm not a fan of A7X but I love this album.

Shadow2222

Whew, what an album. Save Me is awesome, and my other favorites are Danger Line and Natural Born Killers. I still don't really like Nightmare (which by the way is coming to Rock Band next week for anyone who cares).

Yeah, Danger Line is great too. I think my favorite songs are God Hates Us, Save Me, Danger Line, Fiction and Victim.

Thats exactly what I'm expecting. Gonna wait till Tuesday to listen though.

I don't know what to think yet. The Self-Titled took a little while to click.

Except that Victim is so brilliant.

John94

I think the standout is Victim. The gospel choir just makes it awesome. I love Fiction for obvious reasons but it isn't my favourite musically. Reading the lyrics and hearing the Rev died 3 days later makes you ponder a little, what with him saying it is his last song. Save Me is good. The intro is quite good, I hear a few fills in there from MP, I can tell his own stuff from a mile away here. I also actually really like So Far Away.

I seriously DON'T like God Hates Us. To me, it's noise, with M.Shadows attempting a growl.

I'd love to see MP do some vocals for them, he would be cool doing the opening to Seize the Day (DT Carpe Diem - Nuggetzz)

Shadow2222

To me, God Hates Us is fantastic. Quite different, but it's cool to hear M. Shadows scream again

Rafael Guerra

After listening to Nightmare, I would expect the whole album to carry that heavy gothic feel, but so far most of the songs I heard carry a rather melancholic approach with one or other stroke of heaviness. I think it will be a very comforting album for the fans to listen, but musically speaking I'm not so impressed. I did like the single Nightmare and Save Me quite a lot though.

Dude, you do know he growled and screamed for the majority of their first 2 albums. He can growl like a beast. That said, his harsh voice has changed a lot since then, but he's probably had to learn a new technique because of the throat surgery

The album is pretty hit and miss to me, but that's what I was expecting. Some great drumming in God Hates Us, Portnoy has seriously been working on his double bass fills. Save Me is great too, but I think it all needs to sink in a bit more before I can decide what I really think of the album as a whole

Tour starts tomorrow! I can't go, but I hope Youtube videos go up fast!

chrisbDTM

was talking to some people yesterday and its amazing how much an image matters to people. just because a7x (not as much now) dress like 'emo' people they get grouped into that, and no matter what they put out, it cant be cool. syn shreds and the rev was awesome at drums.

sorry, just venting

QuoteYou know, he did turn this song in like three days before his death. Listening to the lyrics and knowing the context, maybe he was thinking about taking his life? Sad regardless. Beautiful song. :\

QuoteThis intro.. so haunting.. The song says it all.. but hey stop being stupid, it's surely not a suicide note.. maybe The Rev just had a feeling.. we all have it.. one day or the other.. Such a beautiful song.. really.. it tightens the throat everytime you listen to it.. May he rest in peace..

I have always been a fan of the Rev, I loved his antics and playing skills and I would surely not like to think it, but it does kinda add up, what with how he died and how he gave the song in and the lyrics. I would hate to talk ill of him, but it would be pretty sad. Then again, we will probably never know the full truth.

chrisbDTM

looks like MP took part of the mirage monster on the road

ACID_FOX

intro to "Welcome To The Family = "Honor Thy Father" anyone?

The circumstances of his death (the obvious craziness of combining so many pills with alcohol) are strange. He could legitimately have accidental overdosed though.

The first thing my mother said when she heard the lyrics was "Do they know if he committed suicide?"

Regardless, its very unfortunate and I respect the Rev for what he did during his life.

Heres the set they played

1. Nightmare
2. Critical Acclaim
3. Welcome To The Family
4. Beast and the Harlot
5. Buried Alive
6. Afterlife
7. So Far Away
8. God Hates Us
9. Unholy Confessions
10. Almost Easy

Wonder if it will change over the tour. I wish they would swap so far away out for a song like Victim though.

Arcaeus

Why the fuck would they end with Almost Easy? I'm okay with the rest of the set, but I can't stand that song. They need to take some risks.

That backdrop is...something else...

My favorites of the album are:
God Hates Us
Fiction
Save Me
Nightmare

I like the whole album quite a bit, some tracks had to grow on me (So Far Away, Buried Alive), but i'm definitely satisfied with this release. The whole album seems to have a lack of energy, but not in a dull way, more of a melancholy or sombre feeling to it.

I really don't dig Tonight the World Dies...just does not sound very original to me :-\
