Learning to Live, from the 8VM tour.

Haven't heard of them doing anything special with LtL from the 8VM tour...what did they do?

There was just a really cool jam that replaced the acoustic guitar bit before the whoa's. JR had some very tasty continuum playing, and JP did a nice clean-tone solo.

I think. Haven't listened to the boot I have in a LONG time

It morphed and built, with JP and JR trading solos, until finally, right before JLB came back in with the "Whoooo"s, JR was soloing while the rest of the band played teasers from the main riffage from Cream's Crossroads and then Rush's La Villa Strangiato.  Epic.

I listened to it again last night. JR's continuum solo was really good, probably because it wasn't an overdriven noise-fest.

To be a bit more specific
BTL New York TOT MSG version, that jam was not like any other (way beeter than the L@B version)
LTL San Francisco 8V tour. That jam was so spacey and cool
To Live Forever Wallingford TOT just crazy
BTL LA PN09  Percussive Nation, Dweezel Zappa, Steve Via, JP, JR jam...eargasmic
Solitary Shell Vegas PN09 pretty special

Orbert

"To Live Forever" from Live in Tokyo.

I do like the extended "Hollow Years" but it's always bugged me that it sounds so glorious and triumphant, when it's actually a sad song.  It just doesn't fit.

Sounds really epic.. I can't believe I haven't heard this yet being as LtL is my favorite by the band. Must seek it out!!

I agree, that was a great one, much better than Budokan.

Hollow Years from Budokan
Surrounded and Lines in the Sand from Chaos in Motion

The Letter M

I enjoy many of the selections mentioned here, but I don't recall anyone mentioning "The Spirit Carries On" from LSFNY! The impromptu coda-ending is just BONE-CHILLINGLY-AWESOME for me, and it's one of those goosebumps-moments that I'll always have when listening to it.

I also do enjoy "Hollow Years" from LAB and "Surrounded" from CIM. Also, "Metropolis" from WDADRU is very very good.

Through Her Eyes from LSFNY is awesome. The guitar solo is quite amazing.

Forgot about this. The added gospel and Theresa really made this song more majestic, and uplifting. The only problem I have is that JM didn't do his cool bassline at the end of the song like the studio version.

KISS 76

Just a thought... How great is it that the band even bother to do this each tour instead of playing the same stale set list like 99.9% of other bands do... Keeps it fun & interesting for the fans & themselves. Just one of the reasons this band is so awesome!

Ben_Jamin

^Amen.

Who wants to see a band who always play there hits. One reason I kinda don't like festivals with popular bands cause that's all they play everytime they come here

Probably fans of bands with more than one hit.

Surrounded Chaos In Motion is unbelievable, the solo is just WOW.
I like BTL in Live At Budokan, I think the Jordan/Mike part is a little exageratted by I cant imagine the song without it.
I saw Hollow Years live this year and Jordan´s piano breaks and the alternative verses made it very magical as well.
Those are my top 3 extended.

Hard to say just one, but my favorites:

Metropolis - When Dream and Day Reunite
Lines in the Sand - Live at Bucharest
Surrounded - Chaos in Motion
Hollow Years - Live at Budokan
Peruvian Skies - Santiago, Chile

funny how a lot are from Falling Into Infinity

Hollow Years extended...one of the best concert moments ever.

THIS,

but,

special shoutout to the cover of Maidens "Gangland" from #OTB Live.  Beautiful breakdown in middle of that amazing jazzy version.

cramx3

Good call on Gangland, they do a really cool version of it.
