The Story Behind Your Username
« on: January 27, 2010, 04:25:07 PM »
ITT we post stories about our usernames.

I came up with BirchBoy (originally Birch Boy) years ago when I was at a friend's house playing Halo 2. We were making characters and I had to think of a name, and I think I was thinking of either birch beer or a birch tree/wood (we might've been drinking birch beer), so I named my elite Birch Boy. That's also my gamertag (except someone somehow already had it, forcing me to make it B1RCH BOY). Apparently it's also the name of a Canadian syrup brand.

The first forum I checked out, Yesfans, all ready had the name I wanted, Your Move(a Yes song), so in a pinch I just put in lonesoul.  I quickly realized that was stupid, and it led to lonestar.  Once I found my original avatar, I kinda grew into it.  I'm not actually a spaceballs freak, though I do enjoy the movie.  Sorry guys.

Old nickname from elementary school, I've used it as a screen name since I was like 10.

Portmanteaus kick ass. So, I figured a portmanteau about being the ultimate metal head would be double the kick ass.

And thus, the UMH was born.

I just needed a user name and I found a cool Space Invaders avatar. It made sense.

It doesn't now that I have the avatar I have now, but meh, it works.

Just a random thing from middle school.  We figured a skydiving ninja would be a pretty badass, frightening thing to deal with, so I started using it as a screen name and I haven't really felt like changing it ever.

This is the best!!!!

My name stems from a story Alex Lifeson told by Neil Peart in the Power Windows tourbook.  He was King Lerxst, King of Shmegland.  So he declared that monday's was a day off from recording and named it  Big Al day(For the Producer of the album). So I wanted to use this as my Email so I tried Lerxst, KinkLersxt ect.. Until I came up with Kingshmegland.

This is the link.  https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/tourbook-powerwindows.php

I took the Silmarillion, looked in the back at the elvish name-sections, and made faemir.

That was after making moredhel, only to find it was the name of the main character in some book :yeahright

When I saw this thread title I was hoping you would respond because I was trying to figure out what yours meant.

Mine is simply the same IM handle I've used since 2003.  dreamtheater (obvious) and vt = Virginia Tech.

I got sick of using my high school nickname for my handle, especially since I had to start explaining it, so when I got accepted to VT for grad school, I decided I needed a new online persona.

Long story.  I've told it before, but there doesn't appear to be a version from after the crash.  Before re-typing it, I'll see if Cozmo just has it saved somewhere.  And, no, it does not have anything whatsoever to do with Star Wars.  (although, really, if it was from Star Wars, that would somehow be less geeky than the real story)

X can be construed as a symbol for "Christ", and my name is Christian. "Christ"+ian = Xian. So if you ever have troubles pronouncing it, just think "Christian" (I'm looking at you, Nick :P)

And L is the first letter of my last name :tup

Oh, really?  I always thought it was Chinese, which is why I usually refer to you as Jan Lee (over Anglicized pronounciation of the pinyin version).  Heh.  The more you know...

I'm sure you know, but X'ian actually is a Chinese city (which gave my good friend's Chinese girlfriend a good dose of mirth).

In retrospect, I probably should have chosen a screen name that has a more common pronunciation consensus :P

How exactly do you pronounce it? When TDoL talk, we both pernounce it as Zian-al.
