just because they were around doesn't mean they were any good and it doesn't mean there was a market for them. Now companies are falling all over themselves to make ipad competitors. Plus the user interface is what revolutionizes them. No one seems to get it until they do it and then people just copy and try to do better. That's what revolutionizing is.

i don't even know how to respond to that. Put it this way i'm getting my degree to work so i can develop for OSX and iOS. It's my goal to work for Apple. Every place else would be a fallback plan. But i need a degree in CS and need to master objective C. So i'm working towards it. Does that answer you iOs question?

That's right, which in turn not only has made them the leader (by a very wide margin) in both the tablet and mp3 player markets, but has basically brought those markets into the mainstream ('revolutionizing' them in a way). They didn't invent the tablet or mp3 player, but until they released theirs nobody knew what the hell they were.

Companies said, "Buy our 2GB mp3 player! It's only $199!" If you told most people that today they wouldn't know what you mean, let alone ten years ago. Apple came out a year later and said, "1000 songs in you pocket." That sounds cool enough that people don't give a fuck how much it is. I give Apple a lot of credit for pulling that stuff off, they have more dedicated fans than most companies, they're about mentality not the best product out there.

Like them or not they do know how to market a product. I'm trying to find that TED Talk where this guy explained the idea behind the success of their marketing. He basically explained how to do it yourself... yet Apple seems the only guys still doing it. Weird.

I like the ipad. I'm in the market for one. I have been holding out for months now waiting for the ipad2 announcememnt. I really would like a front facing camera. I don't want one to use like a computer. I just want something that is useful while on campus. If I need to do research or type up a lenghtly paper, I have the computer lab for that. If I'm just chilling in the library and want a lightweight, easy to use web browser, the ipad is perfect. It has a nice display, I can listen to all my music, and play a quick mini game here and there if I wish. A friend of mine has replaced all her notebooks with hers. She takes all her notes on it, and can keep all the power point slides at her fingertips as well. I use my ipod touch all the time and wish I had a bigger version. I don't even care if it is the exact same thing, it's worth it for the size. At night when I just laying out on my bed, using a laptop is a major pain in the ass, an ipad would be perfect. (inb4 the masturbation joke)

It doesn't HAVE to be that big, really. For example, the 13-inch Macbook pro is highly mobile. When the new pros hit the shelves, they will be my top choice. The C2D processors on the current 13-inchers were a little disappointing, so I'm eager to see the new lineup.
