The fact that you can't change the battery of your iPod/iPhone/iPad is something that really annoys me. I mean, spending € 130 to get your battery changed? Come on.

At least it's an efficient marketing/profit-gaining strategy, but it isn't consumer-friendly at all.

Well, at least on the iPod and the iPhone, you get the same MP3 player/phone back. With this program, they send you a whole new iPad and I imagine that you'll have to setup everything again as if you were getting it new (note how I said "I imagine", I'm not stating this as fact).

Well, I know for sure that you send you a whole new iPad but I'm not sure whether they transfer your data, settings etc. from the old one to the new one or not.

As 'innovative' as their products are, I simply can't justify buying into planned obsolescence.  Maybe I'm just out of touch with the pace of technology, but if after 2-3 years, my $500 purchase is not still a high functioning, well supported device (like the $280 mp3 player i bought in 2005, that has been collecting dust on a shelf for nearly 2 years), I can't be bothered.

I remember an engadget article saying they don't save the data, that it's up to the user to store all the data onto their computer before they send it in.

With the iPad (and iPhone/iTouch), there is automatically a backup in iTunes every time you sync. It restores with, literally, one click on new products. Makes your product exactly the way you sent it way. While it's not thee absolute most convenient thing in the world, it's far from even a little headache.

Awesome.
Well, that's a nice way to waste $400.

I had to watch that on silent because I'm at school, but still couldn't help from literally laughing out loud.

Seeing as how the series has sold way more of those blenders, each of which costs 300$+, I'd say it's a worthy investment.

You gotta handle to Apple for purposely selling a faulty piece of equipment knowing hundreds of thousands will buy it anyway only to eventually release a better version down the line and have everyone buy it again.

Apparently theres space left on the pcb suitable for a camera.

Apparently theres space left on the pcb suitable for a camera.

According to this, the space that a camera could/would go was used instead for the ambient light sensor.

The ambient light sensor lives in a compartment that a camera would love to call home.

We suspect that this compartment was intended for the ambient light sensor all along, and the rumors of a camera that would fit here were overzealous. The layout does look very similar to the camera's view ports on the MacBook Pro 13" Unibody

The lack of a camera is completely illogical functionally speaking. To me at least, one of the most obvious (and marketable) features would be the ability to skype chat with people. Guess that's planned for the next version that'll come out six months from now.

Not charging via USB...not powering up unless they sync it with iTunes...

Literally just read that article about 10 minutes ago Harry, and it's hilarious. It really is the most disappointing thing Apple have created. :lol

Although whenever I see the iPad described as a "tablet computer" (like in that BBC article) I get slightly annoyed. It simply isn't a computer, it can't do anything off it's own back, you can only upload anything into it by connecting it up to an actual computer in some way, and only then through iTunes. It's simply an oversized smartphone.

Rumbo, that HP does actually sound pretty nice. I'm not really interested in a tablet device, but if I was going to get one, that's definitely the kind of thing I'd go for. The only downside is the battery life doesn't sound that great, but otherwise it seems vastly superior.

The firm took apart a 16GB iPad without 3G capabilities, a model that currently sells for $500, and estimated that the component parts for each unit cost Apple about $251. Throw in the cost of manufacturing, and the group says it costs Apple $260 to make each 16GB iPad. However, that number does not include other costs to Apple, including software, royalties, and licensing fees.

Thats like a 30-40% margin, based on what their overhead is. Isn't that standard on almost everything?

I'm not sure there even is a 'standard' profit margin when it comes to consumer electronics.
