 :omg: SO JEALOUS

Who's playing bass for them now? And I have no idea what to say at a meet and greet, I've never gotten to do one before.

On the way home & very happy!  An excellent gift from my Princess.  Got a poster signed, a copy of "Meet the Smithereens" signed, & a pic with the band!

Interesting, he was with them when I saw them a few years back. I was under the impression he was only temporary though.

Apparently when Mike Mesaros left, he was retiring.  I'll post a setlist tomorrow.  99% of it, anyway.

I haven't seen them since the 90's Cosmo.  They did a great cover of War Pigs that night.  Can't wait to see the list.

What an outstanding show last night!  The Smithereens were performing at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and Mrs. Cozmo got me tickets for our anniversary.  The opener was John Lilley, formerly of the Hooters.  He did maybe 6 songs or so, a mix of rock/countryish kinda tunes.  I wasn't bored to tears, but it definitely wasn't my thing.  So the lady from WXPN's morning show (World Cafe Live is in the same building with XPN) comes out to announce that to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album "11", they were going to perform the ENTIRE album.  Awesome.  I got almost all of the setlist.  There was one song I didn't recognize, but everything else I got:

A Girl Like You
Blues Before and After
Blue Period
Baby Be Good
Room without a View
Yesterday Girl
Cut Flowers
William Wilson
Maria Elena
Kiss Your Tears Away (end of "11" album)
--------------------
Behind the Wall of Sleep
Drown in My Own Tears
Only a Memory
House We Used to Live In
--------------------
A few selections from their cover album of the Who's "Tommy":
Sparks
Acid Queen
I'm Free
--------------------
She's Got a Way
Especially For You
-Insert unfamiliar song here-
Something New
Since You Went Away
Top of the Pops
Miles From Nowhere
Blood and Roses
Time and Time Again
--------------------
Encore:
Behind Blue Eyes
Batman Theme

During Blood and Roses' outro jam, Jim Babjak and "The Thrilla" came out into the crowd and walked around.  It was funny seeing people in the crowd holding their instrument cables up for them, so they wouldn't get tangled up.  The band sounded absolutely phenomenal.  It was SUCH a good time.  This was my First Smithereens show and at the meet & greet afterwards, I mentioned it to Jim and Pat that it was my first Smithereens show and that nothing could have made it any better.  Jim's like "Really?  Where the fuck have you been for 30 years??" jokingly.  They were really nice guys and very appreciative of everyone being there.

In my looking around this morning, I found that someone in the crowd last night already posted a video to YouTube of Behind the Wall of Sleep (my favorite Smithereens song).  We were MAYBE 10 feet behind this person:

My copy of Meet the Smithereens (their cover of the Beatles' "Meet the Beatles")

Decent shot of the band

Good.  He didn't do a great deal of talking really, just an off the cuff remark here and there, or something about the band or the song, or whatever, but you can tell he'd probably be a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with.

He did tell the story of the time his mom called him at 2 AM to tell him they were in the TV Guide.  They were to be appearing on some TV show (I don't remember which) as the musical guest.  He said the TV Guide had it printed that they'd be playing their hits "Bread and Roses" and "Behind the Wall Asleep".  :rollin

Also, Sigz, Pat indicated that they'll releasing a new album this year.  That should be extremely cool.  I think their last album of originals came out in 1999.  Looking forward to this.
