Right now, learning ITNOG solo, TTTSTA solo, TGP solos. Wicked fast those things.

rumborak

Can you find out if your bass player picks every note in the fast runs or hammers on/pulls off and if he knows how JM plays it? None of their dvds show his hands at those parts.

Money solo- Pink Floyd

I sight read through it, super easy, I just gotta get to the point where it's fluid and I've memorized it all and don't have to look at the notes.

I'm working a few songs by dream theater now, I got Keyboard Anthology a few months back. I'm trying to play them on classical piano which actually sounds pretty cool (especially Stream of consciousness ):

* Learning to live on the piano (I'm suprised at how easy this song is compared to the rest of the book)
* Selection from Six Degrees on Inner Turbulence, I skip War Insinde my head and The Test That Stumped Them All because they sound retarded on classic piano. The final solo for Solitary Shell is so fast I'm having problems with that one, so I'm still working on that part.
* Vacant and Stream of consciousness sounds just so cool on classic piano (apart from the synth solo, I also skip that one). I'm now trying to improvise a bit with the last part. The last 4 pages are pretty easy and I'm just trying to give it my own spin. Play it fast, slow, with a different rythm and now I'm trying to transpose it, that took me a while yesterday to get it right but sounds pretty cool now.
* And lastly I started Through My Words (which is easy) and Fatal Tragedy (which is a lot of fun) last week

I also just started Bohemian Rhapsody, but that's not really that hard.

Prequel to the Sequel on Drums. I've only been playing 1 year and a half so I don't quite have the chops yet. But still megafun to play along to. I have about 60% of it down pat I'd say
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

I play bass and i've been playing for around 4 years (although i'm not as good as i would want to after 4 years of playing) and i've been working on several projects:

- This Dying Soul by Dream Theater. This is a relativity easy one to play on the bass until we get to the final instrumental section where it's not that hard but im working on my speed.

- (B) The Decade of Statues by Between The Buried and Me. I'm getting into this hardcore music a little more recently and BTBAM is like the perfect mix between my two favorite types of music. This is an easy song except for two riffs which are leaving me playing all over the place.

- A Nightmare To Remember by Dream Theater. I've got this down except for the fast part after the MP vocal section. Like i said, still working on my speed and i hope to have this down sometime in the next week or so.

That's what i'm doing. Any recommendations for exercises that will help me increase my playing speed with both hands?

I mean left hand speed. I've been working on scales a lot recently and trying to play them faster and faster but i need something that will allow me to play more difficult passages on the fretboard but my left hand just isn't fast enough. :sadpanda:

well, a quick rundown on modes:

Ionian
Dorian
Phrygian
Lydian
Mixolydian
Aeolian
Locrian

Ionian is your standard scale, like C: C D E F G A B C

Dorian is a scale that you base off the second in the root scale

So, a C Dorian would be: D E F G A B C D

Continue that with Phrygian (based off of the third): E F G A B C D E

and so on. Aeolian, which is based off the sixth, is what's known as a relative minor, because it's the same scale as that minor key

A C Aeolian, then, ( A B C D E F G A ), is the same as an A minor scale

did i explain that clearly?

I'm in the middle of creating a GP file of Major mode scales. It's something I used to practice (when I had some free time). I transcribed it for six string bass, so it won't fit every instrument, but when I'm finished, I could share it with anyone who needs it

Alright I just finished the Mode tab. Basically, it's an eighth note run of the mode scales, in 4 (so it's tied at the end of each ascending run), beginning with C, and working up to B. For 5 string players, beginning with E you might have to change positions on the fretboard. If you play a four string, I'm afraid this tab might not be any good for you, unless you bump everything an octave... I'm not sure how to share a file through one of those file sites, but I can send the tab as an email attachment. If you're interested, just PM me and I'll get it to you.
